I hope you are all having a fabulous Saturday!
I started the morning off with my crazy muscle class at the gym. It is SUCH a great class.
We did 120 pushups today (we always do at least that many), but today it was especially tough. We did 10 pushups and then just held a plank for 30 seconds or so. Then we did 10 more pushups and held the plank again. We did that 6 times, for a total of 60 pushups, and then moved on to something else. We repeated that entire sequence later on in the class to equal 120 pushups.
It was pretty crazy. I actually thought the plank was harder than the pushups! I was able to do all 120 pushups on my toes, but I had to break my plank a bunch of times. My abs and shoulders were on fire throughout the whole thing too.
I hated it, but loved it all at the same time.
On the way home from the gym, I ran to Costco to grab a few things. I was reminded that my beloved Costco is not so beloved on Saturdays.
It was a complete madhouse!! Our Costco is always busy, but Saturdays are somethin’ else. I had to park in Vietnam and make the trek in. It was a workout in and of itself. 😉
I was only going to buy Shampoo and Conditioner (the sale on Pantene ends tomorrow), but I ended up grabbing a few other things too…
- Halloween Candy! I purposely grabbed the non-chocolate stuff so it won’t tempt me! I can resist the sugary, chewy stuff all day long.
- Dates. My “No Treats Challenge” ends in 2 weeks (woo hoo!) and afterward I plan to experiment with a bunch of healthier dessert recipes. Dates are a wonderful natural sweetener to use in recipes. Yay.
- I decided to buy both of these chips because they looked wonderful! I haven’t tried either one, but the ingredients looked stellar. Oh, and BTW I don’t consider any kind of chip to be a health food, but these are definitely a decent option when a salty/crunchy craving hits. I also feel much better about my kids snacking on these too.
- I LOVED these nuts because they’re unsalted AND every nut in there is awesome. It’s just almonds, cashews, pistachios and pecans. Yum, yum, yum and yum! There are no peanuts or Brazil nuts (yuck!) in there. Love it.
When I got home from my little gym/Costco trip, I realized my three big kids were gone at various activities. Soooo, I told Kev we needed to go to lunch. I was starving and it’s much easier to go to lunch with just a couple kids!
We decided to head over to Panda Express. I got the String Bean Chicken with Steamed Brown Rice.
I don’t know why Panda Express put our food in “to-go” boxes (I secretly think it was a hint), but we ended up eating there anyway. Neener, neener.
The String Bean Chicken is so yummy and only has 160 calories! It’s quite high in sodium though. 🙁 Bummer. But, I’m thrilled that Panda Express has started offering steamed brown rice as a side. The serving size is HUGE though.
We had a good time and it was nice to be with some of my favorite people.
Oh, I also got a great fortune in my fortune cookie (my 5 year old ate the cookie though!)…
This “advice” is definitely pertinent to health and fitness! I know in order to have any kind of long-term success in the health department, you definitely need to evaluate and sometimes reevaluate life and make permanent changes as necessary.
*******************
My kids were invited to a fun neighborhood Halloween Party today and I was asked to send a treat to share with all the kids.
I should have made something healthy, but I didn’t. ;-( Heaven knows, the kids get plenty of sugar this time of year! BUT, I did come up with something that was pretty dang simple and turned out cute!
I just made my favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe, but added some mini Reese’s Pieces (in the baking aisle) to make them look more “Halloween-y.”
I thought they were pretty cute just like that, but decided to decorate them a bit more. I grabbed a couple things from Walmart….
BTW, those fun green Sixlets were in the baking aisle for $1. They had a bunch of different colors too!
I ended up turning the cookies into little monsters…
Ya, I know they’re not the cutest things you’ve ever seen, but the kids loved them and my sanity remained intact.
Win, win.
Back in the day when I only had a couple small kids I made all sorts of fun, crafty and creative things ALL THE TIME. Nowadays, I’m all about quick and easy, but still fun and cute!
These definitely fit the bill.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering…..yes, I wanted to eat every last one of those cookies!! They looked heavenly…. eyeballs and all!
It’s been a fun, but busy day! I’m now going to spend the rest of my night chillin’ with Kev and my homies.
I hope you all have a relaxing night too!

Your posts often inspire me to eat right. This time, you inspired me to try that planks/push-ups workout. Thanks!

Yay! You are so kind. 😉 I hope you love that push up/plank combo. It’s killer!

I love the idea of the push-ups and planks – I might incorporate that into boot camp this week – pretty sure they will hate it!!!
And – I’m beyond impressed with your cookies! I only have 2 kids and rarely ever get that creative – so not my thing!!

I hope you love the pushups and planks….it’s a great combo!! I’m also glad you liked my cookies, lol!!

Your cookies are too cute. I love the monster faces. Unfortunately, you can never just grab one thing at Costco. We do that push up/plank combo in Insanity. It’s pretty grueling.
Melanie says
Thanks! I know, I can never make a quick trip to Costco. There are too many wonderful things there that I always think I need, lol!

I need to go back to a chinese restaurant, solely for the fortune! I miss those fortunes! 🙂

I am glad I am not the only one who doesn’t buy chocolate Halloween candy just for the sake of me not eating it. Love the Halloween cookies I have to make them. 🙂
Melanie says
I’m glad to hear I’m not alone as well! I hope you love the cookies. 🙂

I think these are ADORABLE!! Don’t sell yourself short — you made an effort to be cooler than just cookies on a plate and succeeded. 🙂
Melanie says
Awww, thanks so much!! I guess they were cooler than just cookies on a plate. 😉

Such a good idea buying the chewy candy – I’m the same way and couldn’t care less about that stuff. So smart! Also – I’m trying the push-up/plank combo this week!

Holy moly! I can’t believe you did 120 pushups! That is crazy!!!! I am recovering from an injury so just getting back to pushups at all is a crazy difficult task for me!

I know, every time I go to that class I’m amazed by what our instructor has us do!! I know I could NEVER push myself that hard on my own….so I keep on going and get tortured every time, lol!
