I have to share a funny pic with y’all. You may have seen this floating around the internet. I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed when I saw this!
Sooo funny! Well sadly, this cute little picture became my reality this past weekend.
*******************************************
My sweet little son turned nine on September 17th. He told me all he wanted for his birthday was Legos and more Legos! He also asked me to make him a Lego cake.
Fun.
I actually enjoy making fun cakes for my kids. I’m not very good at it and they usually don’t turn out like I want them to, but I’m stubborn and determined enough to keep trying.
Well, I just met my match.
My poor little Lego cake turned out ugly. 🙁
Here’s what I was going for…
Way cute huh??
Ya, dang Pinterest.
Well, 3+ hours and loads of patience later, this is what I came up with…
I’m so sad. I’ve officially retired from “mega cake” making.
BTW, I actually made this for my son, my dad and my niece who all share the same birthday (and who all secretly wanted a Lego cake too.)
I was actually watching 4 of my nieces and nephews last weekend too. My cute niece was watching me as I made my “cake.” She said, “Melanie, you should open up a cake shop!” I thought that was sweet, but I told her, “No, I would end up in the funny farm with no hair if I did that….and no one would buy my cakes!”
Soooo, if any of you would like to attempt to make a cute Pinterest cake, here is my advice to you….
- Make sure you know how to achieve the colors of frosting you want.
- Make sure you are a professional cake decorator.
That’s it. Simple as that.
Moving on….
It’s almost Friday! Wahoo!!
Kev and I try to go on a Friday night date every week. It is lovely. We usually go to dinner and a movie or something. Love it.
Last weekend we went to The Sizzler for dinner. It was so so so yummy! I ordered the 6 oz. sirloin steak (medium well) with sauteed onions. It came with two sides, so I ordered broccoli and a dinner salad (with ranch dressing on the side.) It was heavenly. My steak was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed every single bite…
I may need a “do-over” this weekend.

On Saturday, I went to a class at the gym (loved it!) Afterward, I had a couple hours to kill (long story), so I decided to buy myself some lunch! I realized that one of my favorite restaurants of all time was just up the road from my gym….so I went there!
Oh my word, it’s YUMMY! And HEALTHY!! I have loved everything I’ve ever ordered there. Sadly, for you non Utah folk, I think it’s just a local chain. It’s such an amazing restaurant though, I imagine it will branch out into other states one day.
Soooo, if you are ever in the Salt Lake Valley for any reason, GO TO BLUE LEMON!
I ordered the Pear and Gorgonzola Spinach Salad this time.
I only used a little of the Balsamic Vinaigrette it came with. It was so flavorful, it hardly needed dressing at all! Oh, and BTW I think I’m going to attempt to recreate this at home sometime. It was so so yummy.
I also ordered a small cup of Spring Veggie Soup.
It was very good too! But, do you know what made me most happy???
My drink!
I’m usually just a water drinker, but I also enjoy a diet soda every now and then.
I’m so glad I ordered a soda this time because they had the cutest soda machine EVER! You’ve probably all seen these, but I don’t get out much so it was new to me!
I found this little video on You Tube so you can see what I mean…
I ordered a Caffeine Free Diet CHERRY coke! How cool is that. Ya, I was probably a little too excited about it.
Well, that’s it! I need to go to bed now. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
