The 4th of July is tomorrow! Yay!
I really love the 4th. To me, it’s the epitome of summer; barbeques, warm weather, good friends and family, staying out late and laying on the grass watching fireworks.
It doesn’t get much better than that.
I also decided that I want to make something yummy, healthy and CUTE for the fourth of July tomorrow.
It has to be cute, right? Here are some fun ideas I came across today….
Flag Cake!
I’m sure you’ve all seen versions of this cake before, but it’s a classic! And, you can make it relatively healthy too. Just use your favorite healthy cake recipe and decorate it up like this! I found a really great Angel Food Cake Recipe from Cooking Light that looked so good!
Patriotic Fruit!
How cute is that fruit (and cheese)? I love it! You could also sub out the cheese for bananas too. There are a bunch of cute things you can do with fruit. I’ve seen so many cute patriotic kabobs…
Or you could just throw a bunch of patriotic colored fruit in a bowl and call it good!
Easy as that! I’ve even seen people cut out star shapes of watermelon or pineapple and it looks adorable.
Patriotic Green Salad!
I also have a fun green salad I love to make on the 4th (or anytime!) You just mix the salad greens of your choice with toasted nuts (I love pecans!), blueberries, strawberries or raspberries and feta cheese (or goat, gorgonzola, etc.) It’s super easy, healthy and yummy!
Oh, and it’s cute….
You can use any kind of store bought salad dressing you like, but I found this wonderful Red Raspberry Vinaigrette recipe that looks fabulous!
Patriotic Popsicles!
I also want to make some fun, healthy AND CUTE popsicles for the kids!
I found this recipe on SuperHealthyKids.com and it looks awesome and super easy! Love it!
I loved all of these fun ideas! There are a bunch of other yummy and healthy, but maybe not as cute things that you can make as well. Here are some of my favs…
- Veggie trays—you can never go wrong….and they always taste awesome
- 7 layer dip—if you use fat free refried beans and low fat sour cream, this can actually be pretty decent. Oh, and make sure to use veggies or healthy chips to dip in it!
- Corn on the cob! What’s not to love??
- Deviled eggs—love!
- There are a million and one quinoa salads out there that I want to try. I found this one and it looks fabulous!
- There are also a bunch of Cowboy Caviar (a.k.a. bean salad) recipes out there that I love. Here’s a great one I found.
- Grilled chicken! We love grilled chicken and I have a wonderful grilled chicken marinade that I love SO MUCH! I get requests for the recipe all the time.
- Kabobs! We also love, love, love kabobs ’round here! I could eat them every night. Yum.
Well, that’s all for now. I’m going to try a bunch of these recipes myself, and when I do I will share them with y’all!
I hope each and every one of you has a very fun and SAFE fourth of July!
