Kev and I have been gone the past few days helping with a Youth Conference (ages 14-18) for our church. It was absolutely amazing, but I can’t tell you how tired I am! Man. We camped at a beautiful place near Park City, Utah and I loved everything about the conference except the whole “camping” part of it all, lol.
One night we heard from an AMAZING motivational speaker named Mike Schlappi. He talked about how when he was 15 years old he was accidentally shot in the chest by one of his best friends. That accident made him paralyzed and he has been in a wheelchair ever since. He went on to play wheelchair basketball and won several medals at the Olympics. He has an amazing attitude and is so inspiring. I know he made a huge impact on all of us who were there. I just found his website, so if you’re interested….check it out. www.mikeschlappi.com I loved him!

I thought I would tell you guys about a fun day I had with my kids last weekend. I took 4 of my kiddos to the local high school track and we had a ball!
The minute we got there, my 3 youngest boys were running around the track…
After we’d been there just a few minutes, my very competitive 9 year old son said he wanted to race me. He said, “Mom, I want you to run as hard and as fast as you can!”
He’s actually a really fast runner, so I knew I could actually run hard. He’s taken Track and Field the past two summers, but he didn’t want to take it this summer.
Bummer.
Anyway, we did the whole “On your marks, get set, go” thing…
And we were off…and he KICKED my can!
Seriously. We ran around the track once. We were pretty close most of the way, but near the end my son’s legs turned into a motor and he smoked me.
It was pretty crazy. I told him, “See, you should have taken track this summer!” He answered, “No, I should have been in the Olympics!”
Lol, ya gotta love that confidence.

Pretty soon, my 5 year old said he wanted to race me too.
We ran around the track and he did such a great job! Cute little Jimmer (the dog) ran along with us as well. He was in heaven!

I asked my daughter if she wanted to race too. She said, “I don’t want to race; I just want to run with you.” Soooo, we started out the traditional way….
And, right before we started she reminded me, “I’m not racing!”
BUT, as soon as we started running, she was cruising!!
I said, “What happened to not racing!??” Sooo, I sped up and ran as fast as I could and she beat me too!!
I was feeling pretty old at this point. In all seriousness, I was running as hard as I could. I thought, “How can I be old enough to have kids that can run faster than me?”
I’m old.

My sweet little baby wanted to “race” as well…
He beat me too, lol.
After we finished running, we (I mean, I) decided we needed a little more exercise.
We ran up and down the stairs…
Did some planks on a bench (I’m lovin’ my cute, squishy 5 year old’s plank!)…
Then we turned those planks into decline push ups, but my kids weren’t huge fans of that….
We did some tricep dips…
And some crunches on the grass…
I loved that my sweet baby was snuggling with me and the dog was enjoying my “shade.”
We had a lot of fun. After our workout, the kids wanted to explore under the bleachers. They were excited to find a little clubhouse dealy thing there…
We also realized that there was a bunch of trash everywhere, so we decided to pick up a bit before we headed home…
On the way home, the kids said they wanted pizza for lunch. I felt like they earned it. Yes, I know it’s not ultra healthy, but it is ultra yummy!
Pizza is one of my all time favorite foods, so I decided to eat a big ol’ salad before I had any pizza (so I wouldn’t inhale the pizza!)
My salad had romaine, cucumber, red pepper, apples, a hard boiled egg and a little cheese on it.
I picked out a smaller piece of pizza (one with a bubble!) and it was so good! I must admit that I kept snitching more pizza after this. I kept cutting off skinny slices with the pizza cutter and I probably did that 4-5 times! So, I essentially ended up eating about two big slices total.
Well that’s it! We had a great time and I can’t wait to do it again. I want to bring Kev and my oldest son along next time we go. 😉

Hehe. Mel, those couches are courtesy of the track team. When they are out on runs and find free couches at the side of the road they pick them up and carry them back there. Crazy, huh?!?!

That’s so funny! I was wondering if they belonged to the track team. My kids thought it was such a cool little hang out.
