Long time, no blog eh?
Well, I hope y’all had a fabulous weekend. On Friday night, Kev and I went to see the movie Transcendence.
It was really, really, really…..really dumb. I mean REALLY.
Actually, I should mention that I slept for a big chunk of it, so it’s possible it was good while I slept. 🙂
I thought the plot was sorta kinda interesting, but it was sooooo slow moving and just booooooring. In fact, it’s the first movie I’ve ever seen where I thought, “Ya know, should we just go home?” Then I just decided to make better use of my time and go to sleep.
Ya. It was really sad. Save your $$.

On Saturday, we took the kidlets out to lunch at Panda Express.
Oh, and I must mention that this little cutie is an expert at using chop sticks…
It’s pretty crazy. For some reason I am “chop stick challenged,” but he always eats his ENTIRE meal using them. He loves it and is quite proud of himself. Love that kid!
I decided to order the bowl with steamed brown rice and the new Shiitake Kale Chicken Breast.
It was really good! I calculated the nutrition facts for this meal to be 590 calories (420 of those calories are from the rice!), 12 grams of fat, 23 grams of protein, 7 grams of fiber and 585 mg of sodium. Not too bad!
I will mention that this bowl had a TON of rice in it. I probably only ate just over half of the rice (the nutrition facts are calculated using all of the rice, FYI.)
It was tasty and filled me up for a while. I also just had water to drink.
I’ve still been trying to eat really well, but I’ve definitely been having a few splurges here and there. I’ve been eating really well for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but I’ve been snaggin’ too many “not so healthy” snacks in between meals. I’ve been chowin’ down on kettle corn, toast, cereal, fruit leather, etc. between meals.
Notice all the carbs??! Geesh.
For some reason, the past week I have felt VERY hormonal and PMS-ish (all you men out there should be grateful your hormones are stable….just sayin’.)
Anyway, it’s been so strange because I’ve still felt PMS-ish about once a month throughout this pregnancy! Weird. I seem to bloat up (noticeable water retention and weight gain), break out, feel ornery and crave every carb in sight.
Isn’t that so weird!?? Soooo, I decided to keep track of it for the rest of my pregnancy to see if I find a pattern. I’m curious.
Sooooo, I’ve been eating more carbs/sugar than I would normally like, but I’ve also resisted a lot of things too. I’m just hoping my cravings and craziness end soon.
On a brighter note, I had a pretty decent exercise week last week! I went to the gym 3 times (one class and two weight room sessions) and went on a walk with my kiddos twice. I also cleaned my entire house from top to bottom on Friday (I’m counting it as a workout!)
I took one quick pic in the weight room while I was there…
Yes, I look ridiculous. I always feel like a big dweeb taking selfies at the gym, so I just snapped this pic quickly and didn’t try to pose (obviously.)
I also felt very, very bloated in that pic. It’s okay though….such is life.
I also loved walking to the park with the kids. It’s about a 2 mile round-trip walk. Oh, and I’ve decided my running days are over for the rest of this pregnancy. It’s sad, but I seriously can’t imagine running right now. It makes my body feel so jacked. Soooo, I’ve just been trying to walk fast. I’m going to try to go on 2-3 walks a week if I can.
Anyway, I pushed these two cuties in the double stroller…
They really love those stylin’ sunglasses, BTW. 😉
We decided to bring a lunch and have a picnic at the park. It was great…
Oh, and I have to mention that my 6 year old has LOVED doing his hair and his brother’s hair lately. Every morning, he pulls out the water bottle and hairspray and spikes both of their hair up. It’s so darling, but I think he’s using a tad too much product (their hair looks bulletproof, lol!)
He’s quite proud of himself though and I love it!
Anyway, after lunch I chilled out with Jimmer (the dog) while the kiddos played on the playground…
It was so nice and the weather was perfect (~70 degrees.) I also pushed my baby on the swing for a bit…
Notice Jimmer hangin’ out in the stroller in the background. Too funny. Here’s a closer look…
Yes, he’s a little pampered, but I love that dog SO much! Oh, and I have to say that our double stroller has seen a LOT of miles in it’s lifetime. We bought it 13 years ago when we had our second baby. It makes me sad to think I will only use it for one more baby and then we will be DONE with it. Wow, I feel old.
Well, that’s all I’ll share for today. I plan on going on another walk with my kids later on today. It’s the perfect form of exercise for me right now. It feels good, doesn’t kill my body and is good quality time with my kids. Win, win, win!
Oh, I also took my 27 week pregnant picture yesterday. I feel mega bloated in this picture too. I’m really hoping to deflate a bit this week, but it might just be my “new normal” too. We’ll see…
I hope you all have a wonderful Monday! xoxo

I’m terrible with chopsticks too. I’ve even had friends show me how to use them, but still haven’t mastered it yet. You are really showing now. I can see your healthy diet and exercise plan is working. You still look nice and slim.
Melanie says
I’ve pretty much given up on chopsticks, lol. Thanks for saying I look “nice and slim.” Those are two words I wouldn’t use to describe myself right now…so you made my day!
Kim says
You are too cute!! You aren’t bloated – you’re pregnant and look awesome!!!
Melanie says
Thanks so much. You’re such a sweetie. 😉
Lauren says
Amen to men not having to worry about hormones – lucky dogs! I love that you had a picnic – I totally am making Dan picnic with me this weekend!
Melanie says
I can’t imagine what it would feel like to just feel the same ALL the time! Men ARE so lucky! I love picnics so much and hope to fit a few more in before the weather gets too HOT! I hope you get to go on a picnic this weekend.

Hey cute PREGGERS!!! 🙂 I have never been to Panda Express! What your chicken fried??? It looks pretty flipping tasty!
Melanie says
Panda is pretty dang good and they have a lot of decently healthy options. The chicken I had was grilled and so tasty! My kids love the orange chicken, which is fried though.
Deborah says
Thanks for the head’s up on Transcendence. I thought I wanted to see it because Johnny Depp is in it!
Having gained 55 and 60 pounds during my pregnancies, I think you look fabulous! Unfortunately I was not as fitness conscious as you. I looked your size at about three or four months along!
If I win the lottery, may I fly your family to Florida so your little boy can show my teenage son how to do his own hair? We are so impressed with him. My son still wants me to help with his hair.
Melanie says
I’ve done better with the health and fitness thing with this pregnancy, but I’m still feeling very POOFY! It’s frustrating, but I know it’s so worth it….and very temporary thank goodness!
FitBritt@MyOwnBalance says
Oh my gosh! You look so great! I can’t believe you are 27 weeks! You look like 17 weeks!
That is so weird about the PMS thing. Did you ask your doctor about it? Maybe your hormones still spike 1x a month?
Too bad that movie was so bad. The previews looked decent.
Melanie says
Oh my word, you are so nice! I’m feeling so poofy and it’s not fun. I forgot to ask my doc about the PMS thing. It’s so weird. I’ll have to ask her next time I go and see what she thinks!

You look so good!! Way to go pushing through life with a positive attitude!! I love it! Also, panda is so delicious and those are some serious skills for a 6 year old! Woooohoooo! I’m going to not watch transcendence. So far I’ve loved all your movie reviews and they are right on, so thanks for saving me the time and money! We love a good movie in this house 😉 take care and keep chugging along. Best of luck
Melanie says
Thanks so much!! You’re a sweetie. I really love Panda too and I have NO IDEA how my child figured the chopsticks out. Crazy. We love movies ’round here too. My husband is a HUGE movie buff, so our date night usually consists of a movie. 😉
BackatSquare0 (@BackAtSquare0) says
I had heard that movie wasn’t great, but lots of times I like movies the critics don’t so I always love getting your reviews.
Melanie says
I don’t always agree with the critics either, so I was hopeful this movie would still be good! Sadly, it wasn’t….at all.
The Vegan 8 says
You look so pretty in that last pic! I laughed out loud at your “dweeb” comment of taking pics at the gym. I’d probably feel that way too…I’d be embarassed to take pics, but everybody seems to do it nowdays, so don’t worry about it! I haven’t even heard of that movie before, but I never watch tv hardly and am too cheap to pay for a movie, haha!
Melanie says
Thanks!!! I seriously feel like a dweeb every time I take a selfie, but I keep doing it anyway. Ha. Kev is a HUGE movie buff, so we find ourselves going to movies often. I’m always just happy to get away for a bit with my husband no matter what we do!
