A Great Workout and some Awesome Veggie Protein Powder

July 18, 20139 Comments

I went to the gym with Kev around 10 o’clock last night.  We had such a crazy day and almost didn’t go, but at the last minute we decided to get ‘er done.  It ended up being a great time to go because the gym was dead.  I loved it.  There were only about 6-7 other people there.

I just worked my upper body using machines and free weights.  FYI, I try to go to classes at the gym on Monday, Thursday and sometimes Saturday and I try to run on Tuesdays and Fridays.  I usually just do upper body on Wednesdays because I feel I get enough lower body in my classes and on my runs.  AND, for some reason I really hate working my lower body.  I don’t know why?

Anyway, I did a bunch of supersets on the machines, which was nice.  If you don’t know what a superset is, it’s basically just two different exercises done back to back without any rest in between.  I really love doing supersets because it intensifies the workout and I hate wasting time “resting” between sets.

It’s usually hard to do supersets on the machines when the gym is busy too, so I decided to take advantage of the “dead gym” and do a bunch of them last night.  Here’s what I did…

Upper Body Supersets Workout
(Using Machines: 3 sets of 8-10 reps):

  • Tricep Pushdowns
  • Seated Cable Bicep Curls
  • Shoulder Presses
  • Lateral Raises
  • Wide-Grip Lat Pulldowns
  • Chest Presses
  • Assisted Pull Ups
  • Assisted Dips

(Using Free Weights: 3 sets of 8-10 reps):

  • Bicep Curls
  • Hammer Curls
  • Upright Rows
  • Military Presses
  • Side Lateral Raises
  • Tricep Kick Backs

I almost finished at this point, but then I realized the cable machine, which is ALWAYS busy, was totally open!  I decided to do a few more of my favorite exercises.

I did some tricep pushdowns using the rope attachment (apparently I make funny faces when I exercise)…

Then I did some seated cable rows (for some reason I look like a man in this pic…blah)…

Then I finished off with some Cable Crossovers (I totally have evil eyes in these pics, but my Photoshop skills are limited…so I’m stayin’ evil, lol)…

It was a great workout and I completed it in about 50 minutes.  I’m definitely feelin’ it today too.  Love it.  The supersets really save time and it’s so nice when the gym isn’t packed!  Yay.

I was recently sent some amazing Veggie Protein Powder by MRM to try out.  It comes in chocolate and vanilla flavors; I was sent the chocolate kind.

MRM Veggie Protein

I think I’m in love.  Seriously.  This protein powder is freaking amazing.  Check out these nutritional facts…

MRM Veggie Protein Nutrition Facts

I don’t know if you can read that, but all of the ingredients are stellar, everything is real and natural and it tastes awesome to boot!

The protein is derived from a combination of peas, hemp, brown rice, chia seed and flax seed powders.  Everything is Non-GMO and it even includes an amazing Antioxidant blend from 13 different fruits and veggies.  Some of the things included in the blend are blueberries, cherries, bilberries (never heard of those!), broccoli, and spinach.

Holy cow!

So, I decided to make myself a yummy protein shake for breakfast this morning.  I was so worried this protein wouldn’t taste good, but it was great!  In fact, It was awesome.  It was a tiny bit grainy, but with all the nutrition packed in there…I didn’t care.

Here’s what I put in my shake this morning…

Ingredients in MRM Veggie Protein Shake

  • 1 1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 scoop MRM Chocolate Veggie Protein Powder
  • 1/4 frozen banana; sliced (that’s what’s in the little baggy)
  • 1 cup frozen mixed fruit (strawberries, mangoes, peaches and pineapple)
  • 1/2 Tablespoon chia seeds
  • 2 big handfuls baby spinach
  • a bunch of ice (probably 12-15 cubes)

I just threw everything in the blender (except the ice) and mixed it up!  Then I added the ice and blended it all together.

And, here’s what it looked like.  It did not look pretty (thanks to the spinach!)…

But, it tasted fantastic!  It was so refreshing and it filled me up forever!

MRM Veggie Protein Shake 2

I’m going to experiment with this protein powder a little more and try it in some protein pancakes and protein balls.  If it works and tastes good in all my recipes, this may be my favorite protein powder ever.

You can buy it on their website for $29.99, but I searched and found it for a lot cheaper at a bunch of other stores.  Just make sure to check out how much the shipping is!  I’ve found that a lot of supplement stores advertise very low prices, but the shipping is outrageous.

In fact, I just found it on Amazon for $15.69 with free shipping (if you spend at least $25.)  Score.

After I drank my protein shake, I put some dinner in the Crock Pot.  We have a crazy night tonight, so I knew a “Crock Pot Meal” was in order.  I decided to try Chicken Cordon Bleu in the Crock Pot.  YUM!  I just used my regular Chicken Cordon Bleu recipe, but didn’t bread it.  I threw it all in the Crock Pot and then topped it with some homemade Cream of Chicken Soup substitute.

So far, it smells wonderful.  If it turns out okay, I will share the recipe soon!

Well, I gotta go!  I have a crazy night ahead of me. 😉  Love you all….mwha.

MRM sent me the complimentary protein powder, but the opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I love making smoothies for my breakfast, but I have to be honest, I’ve never added spinach or anything else that is green to my smoothies. I think I’m a little unsure of drinking something that color… How serious are you when you say it tastes good?

I am SO serious! I know it’s crazy, but I cannot taste spinach AT ALL (not even a little bit) when I add it to my shakes. I add it to most every shake I make because it’s such an easy way to eat such an awesome vegetable. You would be so surprised. You should just buy a small bag of spinach or kale and add 1 handful to a shake and try it out. You will love it! I have a bunch of good protein shake recipes on my site if you need one too.

I haven’t tried veggies in smoothies either, only when I have juiced in the past. The green actually looks kind of yummy. Your smoothie looks like the perfect consistency, mine never are!

I love crockpot meals for those crazy days. Chicken is always so good and tender, just remember to turn it on! I put a whole recipe in the crock pot one morning before work and got home and realized I had never plugged it in, ugh!

I love veggies in smoothies. I’m always so amazed by how yummy they are! I also LOVE Crock Pot meals. I’m always looking for good recipes. That’s terrible about your story of forgetting to turn on the Crock Pot! That would be the worst. Uggh. 🙁
