Well guys, yesterday was an exciting day!
We had our “gender check” ultrasound to see if our baby was a boy or girl! Everyone was so so excited.
Because this is our last baby, I thought it would be fun to do something special to reveal the gender to the kids. Soooo, yesterday morning I made two cakes…
They were identical on the outside, but one was BLUE and the other was PINK on the inside.
Kev and I went to the ultrasound in the afternoon. We saw our darling little baby…
The technician quickly told us we were going to be having another BOY!! 😉
Yes, we will have FIVE boys (not counting Kev and the dog) in our home. Crazy. We were sorta kinda hoping for a girl because we only have one, but as soon as I saw that darling little profile and those cute arms and legs moving around, I was thrilled to be having another sweet baby boy. He will be the perfect caboose in our family.
When Kev and I got home, the kids could hardly wait to find out what we were having! My 10 year was chosen to “do the honors” and cut into the cake we specified.
The reaction was hilarious! My 3 year old was so excited (he’s wanted a boy from the beginning), but everyone else had mixed emotions. It was a little bit of shock and disbelief mixed with the hilarity that we will have FIVE boys in our home.
I also must mention that Kev is the baby of 8 kids….7 boys and 1 girl!! Soooo, I think it’s in the genes. 😉
Other Baby News
I am now up 9 pounds total. Yuck. I still don’t really look pregnant, but I definitely feel chubby! For some reason, my body really likes to retain water and it makes me feel so poofy!
Here’s a belly shot I took on Sunday…
I don’t feel too nauseous anymore (yay!), but I’ve been having a lot of heartburn. I’ve also been feeling a little moody and my face has been breaking out lately. Weird.
Yes, pregnancy is strange. I know I have a bunch of hormones running all over the place. In fact, I just read the other day that a women has 2,000 times more estrogen in her body while pregnant.
Holy Moly.
My NEW Healthy Plan
Now that I’m feeling a little better, I decided to come up with a “healthy plan.” Soooo, here’s what I came up with…
- I’m going to exercise a minimum of 4 times a week. For now, I plan to go to two weight lifting classes at the gym (Tuesday night and Saturday morning) and go on a run twice a week. I will try to exercise a little bit every day if I can though.
- I am going to eat as healthily as possible. I’m going to steer clear of most processed foods, refined sugar and white flour and load up on fruits and veggies as much as I can. I WILL allow myself one cheat meal (probably Friday night date night) and one treat (probably Sunday night) a week.
- I’m going to strive to get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep each night.
That’s it. I feel SO much better when I exercise regularly, get my sleep and eat well! I love it.
Healthy Eats
I’ve still been on a breakfast burrito kick in the mornings. They always taste SO GOOD to me and fill me up for hours. I made one for Kev the other day too, so we had “his” and “hers” burritos.
Kev put jalapenos and HOT salsa on his and I topped mine with a little bit of our mild homemade salsa. Yum. We wrapped them both in thin spinach tortillas.
I also made a batch of my Healthier Banana Bread the other day.
The kids were thrilled to have this as an after school snack and have been asking me to make some more. I have 3 very ripe bananas on my counter right now, so I may make another loaf later on today. Yum.
I made tacos for dinner last week, but decided to make mine into a big taco salad. It was heavenly.
I crunched up some Food Should Taste Good chips on top and loved them. I also LOVED the chunks of avocado on there too.
I made Chicken Stir-Fry one night and decided to add some Pot Stickers to the mix. We served everything on top of brown rice. It was wonderful.
Surprisingly, all of my kids except my very picky 15 year old enjoy this meal. I love it because it’s pretty simple to make and it’s full of awesome ingredients!
I also made an interesting meal the other night. I was trying to decide what to make for dinner and NOTHING sounded good to me!! Sooo, I decided to serve a bunch of different “party” type foods.
Yes, we just had some ham, cheese, crackers, veggies with yogurt veggie dip, fruit dipped in yogurt and chips and salsa for dinner! It tasted SO GOOD to me and all the kids loved it so much!
We may just do it again.
I also enjoyed the leftovers for lunch a couple times too…
Great Workouts
I’ve been lovin’ going to the gym again! I told you guys I’m only going to two classes a week, but it’s just perfect for my life right now.
We had a CrAzY Saturday this past weekend! My daughter had to be at a dance competition at 7:00 AM.
After she danced, I went to the gym for a bit. I ran a mile on the treadmill and then went to my crazy hard muscle class. Loved it.
That’s my “Why no, I’m not taking a selfie in the mirror!” face, lol. I was trying to be stealthy.
After my class, I ran back over to my daughter’s competition to see her perform a second time. Afterward, we all went to my 5 year old’s soccer game…
My son’s the cutie patootie in the red shorts.
And here’s the cheering section…
It was a crazy, but fun day, AND I’m glad I was still able to make it to my class at the gym!
I’ve also been enjoying running again. Sometimes I run outside and sometimes I run on the treadmill, depending on the weather and time of day.
I ran three miles on the treadmill last night and felt great. However, I can definitely tell I’m heavier than I usually am! I know it’s only 9 pounds, but I can sure feel every one of those pounds. It’s weird. I felt like every time my foot came down on the treadmill, it was like “Boom, boom, boom.”
Pretty crazy….AND it makes me feel so attractive.
Anyway, that’s the latest. I’m sorry this post is SO DANG LONG! I’m going to try to be a better blogger, so I don’t have to write a novel (and y’all don’t have to read a novel!) every time I write. 😉
Oh, and don’t forget to enter my Cascadian Farm giveaway for a fun gift box full of a bunch of goodies! It ends on Thursday at 10:00 AM (MST.)

Congratulations on your new baby boy! (But I feel bad for your daughter having no sister.)
I have given my kids fruit plates, cheese, and chips and salsa for dinner! The first time I felt really bad about it, but I was in a pinch. It turned out the kids loved it so much that sometimes we still do it now just for fun!

Thanks so much. Yes, my daughter was a little sad, but I know she’ll love her new brother too! I felt the same way about that weird dinner, but I was happy to see how much the kids loved it. It tasted so good to me too. 😉

I know what you mean… before surgery, I was running with my holiday pounds, and I could really feel the difference. Felt like extra jiggle of tummy that I wasn’t used to. Had to work a lot harder to do the same run.

Honestly, at least you have your daughter – she will feel only that much more special, the only girl 😉 I love it! You and she will most certainly be best friends (she may go through a phase in her early/mid teens – but she will certainly get through that and appreciate you so much). Awww! I am so excited for you – Your husband… Has a basket ball team, LOL!

Five boys! Wow! I think genetics is a big part of it. My dad is one of 7 kids, 5 girls and 2 boys. On my dad’s side, I am one of 10 granddaughters and I have two little girls.
You look fantastic, no one but you would ever guess you were even pregnant much less already in your second trimester! I looked pregnant at week 9 with my second one!
Melanie says
I really have wondered how much genetics has to do with it. It definitely seems like it’s affecting us! Thanks so much for your kind words. 😉

I’m glad you commented on my blog:) I love finding new sites. First of all congrats on having (another) boy! Such a nice way to unveil it to your kids. You look great. I’ve never had a kid but my mom who is in fantastic shape says that she did 1000 crunches every night when she was preggers with me and she had me without a problem because she was so strong. It amazes me that women don’t take care of themselves while pregnant. Go you!
Melanie says
Thanks so much! I love connecting with other bloggers. I can’t believe your mom did 1000 crunches every night! WOW!
