Oh my word guys, I had a very traumatic experience this morning.
I took my two oldest kids to Middle School this morning, no problem. Later, I took my 4th grader over to the Elementary School. He really wanted me to walk with him to help him find his class, so I parked the van on the side of the road so I could walk with him.
Anyway, my sweet dog Jimmer LOVES to ride with us to take the kids to and from school; it’s seriously the highlight of his day. So, I was just going to leave him in the car for a few minutes while I walked my son to his class. But, as soon as I opened the door to get out, he BOLTED out into the very busy street!!
I screamed and then watched a car run right over him while he tumbled underneath. I seriously thought he was dead, but then was amazed to see him get up and run into the middle of the road. I noticed there was a break in traffic, so I went out into the road and waved my arms to alert oncoming cars. Jimmy then ran off to the grass on the side of the road. I seriously had about 4 heart attacks.
He is fine (amazingly!), but my son and I were very shaken up. I am just so grateful my sweet puppy dog is okay. I cherish that sweet dog so much. I am now going to be an ultra overprotective paranoid doggy mom. 😉
Here’s a pic I took of Jim shortly after the incident…
It really freaked him out too. He’s been sitting right next to me or ON me all day long.
I may need therapy, but I’m sure I’ll get over it eventually. 😉
Anyway, moving on….
Today was (obviously!) the first day of school for my kiddos. We’ve had a wonderful summer, but I’m so ready for the structure, productivity and order that school brings. Yay.
My daughter started middle school (a.k.a. Junior High) this year. She’s in 7th grade and our middle school spans 7th-9th grade. She actually went to 7th grade Orientation, which was a half day of school last Thursday, but today was her first “real” full day of school.
Here she is on both of her “first” days of school.
Here’s a pic of my two Middle Schoolers this morning (7th and 9th grade)…
I love these “old” children! They are growing up too fast!
Here’s a cute pic of my 4th grader…
He’s a cutie patootie. My 5 year old will start Kindergarten next week. Crazy.
Well, along with the first day of school came my first day of Body for Life! Yay. I’m actually very excited and feel very prepared as well. It is such a great program.
You’re supposed to eat 6 small meals a day AND each of those meals are supposed to include a protein (about the size of the palm of your hand) and a carb (about the size of your closed fist.) I’ve found that it’s not too easy to measure everything that way (i.e. tortillas, protein shakes, protein bars, etc.) It’s a good “rule of thumb” (pardon the pun), but I’m going to try to find a more accurate way to measure things.
This morning I made myself a Quinoa Veggie Scramble and it was wonderful!
I just used up the end of some leftover quinoa (about 1/4 cup) and used 1 whole egg, 3 egg whites, onions, peppers and spinach. I topped it all with a little low sugar ketchup.
Here’s what I had for my morning snack…
Two Chocolate Protein Pancakes topped with a little natural peanut butter and some Log Cabin sugar free syrup. Yum! These pancakes include oats, flaxseed, protein powder and cottage cheese, but I hope it’s the right amount of protein and carbs.
I’m planning on having a turkey wrap (on a Flatout) for lunch, a protein shake for my afternoon snack, taco salad for dinner and then protein pudding for my late night snack. It sounds like a lot of food!
I’ll let you know how it goes.
I’m definitely planning on seeing this through to the end! I’ve been reading a lot of things about Body for Life on the internet and I can’t tell you now many blogs I’ve read about people starting the program and then fizzling out after a few days. It’s crazy.
I’m feeling pretty stubborn though and I have no plans to quit! I’m actually excited and I think the “Back to School” time is the perfect time to start. Yay.
Oh, and I’m excited to go to my Boot Camp class at the gym tonight. I haven’t gone for 3 weeks because my instructor had surgery and I’m not a huge fan of the substitute teacher. However, tonight my other favorite instructor will be teaching the class.
Fun!
I really love starting my week off with Boot Camp in the evening. It allows me to have my whole Monday morning and afternoon to get the house back in order after the weekend and to get all my “to do’s” done. Then I get my butt kicked at class later on.
Well, I better jam! It’s time for lunch. Have a great day!
Questions for you guys….
- Have any of you guys had any traumatic pet experiences??
- Are you excited about school being back in session?
- Are you happy or sad that summer is over?

Poor you! I once thought I ran over my Mom’s neighbour’s cat and never again returning to her street again, but thankfully I did not! Back to school for me means back to work, so I’m not too thrilled. I love Fall, fresh harvest vegetables and Thanksgiving, so I can’t wait for that. Winter?? That’s a different story.

I’m so glad you didn’t run over that cat. Wow! I’m sorry you’re back at work again. Are you a teacher? I love fall too and am looking forward to it! I really enjoy all of the seasons except the last part of winter. I love winter during the Christmas season and then I wish it would end. 😉

No. I’m not a teacher. I’m an early childhood educator in Head Start/Full Day kindergarten. We’re a part of the school board and have the same schedule.
