Well dang it, I’m SO SORRY I haven’t been able to blog as often as I would like to!
As you can imagine, my life is a little bit crazy these days. My #1 priority is baby, followed closely by the rest of my kids. Kev falls in there somewhere too. I also have to keep up with the house, eat occasionally, sleep a little bit and breathe. Oh, showering once in a while is important too.
Sooooo, blogging has fallen down the list a ways. Sigh.
Just to paint a picture, this is how I am blogging today…
Yes, I’m the queen of multi-tasking! Oh and my poor puppy dog feels pretty neglected these days. He used to LOVE sitting on my lap while I would work on the computer, but nowadays I’m always holding the baby! Soooo, today I decided to make room for both of them. Win-win, right?
Oh, and life’s been extra crazy lately because school just started up again! Look at these humungous giant kids!!!
I now have one in High School (10th), one in Middle School (8th) and two in Elementary School (5th and 1st.) I also have a cute little preschooler who just started school today! When did they get so old?! Crazy!
It’s been nice to get back to structure and order ’round here, but it’s been tough to wake up at 6:30 every morning, especially after waking up in the night with a cute babe! Yes, I’m a tired mama.
*******************
Well, I’m happy to say I’ve been eating pretty well lately! Last week, I set a goal to stay away from treats, sugary things, fried foods, most processed foods and fast foods.
I think I did pretty dang good! I told myself I could loosen up a bit on the weekend, but I’m happy to say I stayed strong Friday and Saturday! On Sunday night I did have a few treats and it was very fun.
I made some Seven Layer Bars (holy yum!) and then had some ice cream at my parent’s house.
I really enjoy treats, but every time I go without them for an extended period of time I realize how overrated they are! When I can’t have them, they always sound EXTRA good to me and I CRAVE them so much!
Then, when I do finally enjoy some sugar, I think, “Eh, that was good, but not as good as I thought it was going to be!”
It makes me realize that sugar/treats are such a mental indulgence for me. Sure, they taste good, but it’s the happiness, good memories and temporary stress relief that I really crave.
Interesting.
Anyway, I’m still sticking to my “healthy diet” this week as well. So far, so good. I’m just going to keep plugging along until I eventually get back to my pre-pregnancy body.
Speaking of, I took my official 2 weeks Postpartum picture on Sunday.
Eeeeee, I realize the “cuteness factor” in this picture is severely lacking. Just so y’all know, I spend 95% of my time INSIDE THE HOUSE these days. I’m also runnin’ on very little sleep, so this is about as good as it gets, lol! Oh, and the outfits I wear these days are very practical….I just wear whatever is comfy and whatever fits!
Anyway, I’m now down about 16-17 pounds. I have 20-ish more to go! I know I need to be patient (which is hard!) and I know my body is very much in transition right now. My stomach has mostly gone down, but my hips and waist (face, thighs and bum!) feel very wide. It’s interesting.
I just hope to continue to see progress. It seems like every time I have a baby, I cannot imagine my body EVER going back to normal!!! But, somehow it always does…..eventually….after a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears, lol.
I’m a firm believer that it doesn’t matter how many kids you’ve had or how much weight you’ve gained, you can ALWAYS get back to fit and healthy! Sure, not everyone is meant to be a size 4, but you CAN look amazing for YOUR body type and FEEL GOOD in your own skin!
I try not to find EXCUSES as to WHY I can’t lose the weight/be thin/get healthy/exercise/eat well, but instead look for REASONS why I CAN and WILL be healthy/exercise/look great and feel great!
With that being said, I’m feeling like a giant bloated lady right now, but I’m NOT going to quit! It may take a while, but I won’t stop until I get there!

Since it was Labor Day yesterday, I really wanted to do something with my little family. I would have LOVED to have gone on a HIKE, but since I can’t exercise for 26 more days (whose counting!?), I decided we should go on a “hike-y walk.”
We went up to Silver Lake which is right by Brighton Ski Resort. It’s a beautiful, picturesque lake with a one mile trail/boardwalk that encircles it. It’s the easiest “hike” on the planet and perfect for all ages/abilities. We loved it and it was nice to be in the great outdoors.
Two of my boys LOVED climbing up this fun area…
The weather was perfect and the scenery was beautiful.
I also successfully kept Carson on the “down low.” We had him covered up the entire time and he was a happy camper…
It was nice to steal ALL of my kids for a bit and get away as a family. It felt sorta kinda “normal,” which was nice for a change. 🙂
We now also fill up every seat in our van. Holy smokes. We’re old.
Well that’s the latest on our life and all my ramblings. I hope each and every one of you are happy and healthy!

I know it’s SO TOUGH to consistently eat well! I struggle with it all the time. I definitely will do more posts about healthy eating, losing weight, sticking to a healthy plan, etc.

You should never feel bad for how often you post – we know that you are super busy and your family is definitely your top priority!!
You look gorgeous as always – soon enough you will be back to sharing workouts with us!!!
Melanie says
Thanks Kim! I know you can relate with trying to juggle it all too; family, fitness, blogging, etc. It’s crazy. It all brings me joy though, but it’s hard to find the time to do everything WELL!

All the back to school outfits look great. I can’t believe how fast the summer went by. You’re looking really well. I can’t believe you just had a baby! I totally agree. Age and child-bearing shouldn’t be factors in staying in shape. I have seen amazing looking moms out there, as well as women beyond 40 who are in incredible shape.
Melanie says
Thanks! I totally agree with you about how fast summer flew by! It’s been crazy. I have also seen so many amazingly fit women in their 40s and 50s and it’s so inspiring to me! I think as I age, I want to be healthier and take better care of my body!

You look amazing!!
I totally know how you feel about getting back to your old size. I saw a photo of myself from almost exactly a year ago and darn I was so skinny! I was always so hard on myself but now that I’ve got this huge baby on board, I look back and wonder why the heck I was giving myself such a hard time!!
Melanie says
Thanks. It’s been so hard for be to be patient and it’s only been 2 1/2 weeks!! I can definitely relate to what you said too. I used to always try to get a little leaner or a little more muscle or whatever it may be….now I wish I would have just appreciated what I had while I HAD it. Geesh.

That is a very full van! What a happy family picture and a beautiful day for a walk.
I almost miss the tiny baby phase. Almost. Except for that whole pregnancy part. Good thing Elle is super snuggley in the evenings, otherwise I’d really be tempted for another one.
Melanie says
I know, I can’t believe we fill up the van entirely now! Crazy. I’m lovin’ the tiny baby phase so much and am really trying to cherish it, but it’s TOUGH too. Babies are just too dang cute.

Thanks so much! The hike was a lot of fun and it felt so good to get out for a bit!

You just had a baby, and look fantastic…GIVE YOURSELF SOME CREDIT! I love the lake photos!
Melanie says
Aww, thanks so much! I know, I’m not very good at being patient. 🙂

You are amazing! I can’t believe you are blogging AT ALL with a new baby, going on family hikes, and taking care of your other kids, probably all on no sleep. And showering too? I don’t remember getting to shower when I had babies!
Melanie says
Thanks Deborah! I’m definitely sleep deprived and don’t feel like I get very much done AT ALL, but I’m trying to get back to “real” life as quickly as I can. Showering is definitely a luxury these days too, lol!

Hey Melanie, tried to comment on the boppy post-i loved using it. Also, way to go surviving the first three weeks 😉 he’s such a cutie!! And you look so great. Getting some of that awesome vitamin d, can’t beat that! Fall in Utah is my favorite time, I hope you get to enjoy it a little bit among the chaos.
Melanie says
Thanks so much! It was so nice to get out of the house for a bit and soak up some sun. 😉 I love fall in Utah so much too. I want to go leaf peeping in the next couple weeks.
