Well I don’t know about y’all, but the past couple of weeks have been NUTS for me! It seems like the month of May is always crazy, which is sad because it’s such a beautiful month. I wish I could just kick back, relax and enjoy the SUN!
We’ve had a lot of fun things going on, but I am tired.
The end of the school year is always packed full of so many things! I helped chaperone a couple of my 2nd grader’s walking field trips last week (we went to Lowe’s, the DI, Peterson’s Grocery store and IFA.) It was interesting and so much fun to spend the days with my sweet 8 year old.
I also helped “man” one of the bounce houses at Field Day for my 4th grader’s class yesterday, although my bounce house caved in and I had to evacuate all the kids. Ha ha! We realized that the blower thing had tipped over. #fail #ihadonejob
My cute nephew also got married just over a week ago, so we spent the day doing wedding stuff, which was fun…
My 14 year old son had a piano recital last week…
I just gotta say that I’m so proud of this kid. He actually WANTED to take piano and just started taking lessons two years ago. He’s learned a lot, has enjoyed it and NEVER complains!
Back in the day, I made my two oldest kids take piano for a year, but then we moved and I had a baby, so I gave up on that battle. Thankfully, my daughter continued to practice all the time and is now quite the piano player, mostly self taught. 🙂
I’m planning on starting two of my little boys in piano lessons soon. I think it’s great to have some education in music and to also have a talent to develop. I’m a very basic piano player, but I really enjoy playing when I find the time. It’s a nice stress reliever too.
I also went to lunch last week with some of my dearest childhood friends.
I love these ladies and had so much fun chatting, laughing and catching up! Ya know, I am the ONLY one of my friends who still has a cute little preschooler in the mix. I can’t decide if that makes me feel old or young??? He’s my little sidekick and I bring him along with me everywhere I go!
I also went to lunch with my mom and sister the week before and that was nice!
We went to Astro Burgers, which is one of my favorite places because they have THEE BEST salads and sweet potato fries!
I have to laugh though because every time I go there, it definitely seems to be a MAN restaurant. It’s usually completely full of MEN, although I don’t think they are there for the salads! They have the best burgers and fries too! Ha!
We also went up to Oregon to visit Kev’s family over Memorial Day weekend. It was SO NICE to be up there and spend time with family.
Kev helped the little boys build “his favorite fort” that he built all the time when he was little…
They had so much fun hanging out in that fort and actually slept in it one night as well. 🙂
We also visited a few cemeteries to remember some of our loved ones. We stopped by Kev’s brother’s grave who passed away just a few months ago.
We miss him. 🙁
We also stopped by Kev’s grandparents’ graves on our drive home. I was glad we were able to do that.
Sooooo, it has been a wonderful couple of weeks, but just sooooooo darn busy!
I think that’s what life is all about though, right? Spending time with the ones we love, making memories and living up life!
I just need a little time to catch my breath from time to time too though. Ha ha.
Oh, and in the midst of all the craziness, we’ve also been getting ready to run a relay race!!! Aaaaand we are running it TOMORROW! Eeeeee! I’m excited and a little scared at the same time.
I was able to get a 9 mile training run in a week or so ago and I was happy ’bout that.
It wasn’t an awesome 9 miles, but I’m glad I got it done. My longest leg of the race is 9 miles, so I really wanted to run 9 miles at least once.
I was hoping to get another long run in over Memorial Day weekend, but it just didn’t happen. Soooooo, I don’t feel quite as prepared for this relay race as I was last year, but I feel a’ight.
Thankfully, our start time is much later this year! We start at 9:30 AM, a very sane hour. Last year we started at 5:15 AM and had to show up an hour early! It was crazy. We were sleep deprived before we even started.
I’m also soooooo happy that the weather is expected to be awesome! In fact, it might even be a little cold. The high is expected to be in the high 60s and mid 70s. The lows in the 40s. It may rain on us though….we’ll see. I’m just happy that it’s not going to be hot! I would much rather run in the rain instead of the heat. I absolutely fall apart in the heat. My first leg is 5.3 miles and it should be right around noon. I was worried I would be melting, but it looks like it will be good! Woot!
If you care to follow me along on our relay race, I will be sharing updates on Instagram, Instagram Stories and my Facebook page all hours of the day and night the next two days!
*******************************
Well, I’ve still been doing The Faster Way to Fat Loss program, however I’ve struggled a bit the past week or so. It’s so tough to stay motivated and committed when life gets nuts. We were also out of town over the weekend so I missed a few workouts (and my long run 🙁 ) and my eating suffered a bit.
Such is life.
I’m planning on getting back to 100% committed after this relay race is over. Thankfully, June is not looking too hectic (should I even say that out loud!??) so I’m hoping I’ll be able to hit it hard and stick with it!
Ya know, it’s interesting, I’ve learned time and time again that I feel my best when I’m eating a diet full of good, whole, nutritious food, exercising regularly and getting adequate sleep.
Go figure. This is not a revolutionary concept.
But these three things; diet, exercise and sleep go hand in hand completely. They all support each other and when they are all being done in a balanced way….synergy happens!
When I get enough sleep (really this one is key for me!), eating well and exercising become so much easier and much more rewarding. I have a lot more energy, so my workouts are more effective and fun! My appetite also becomes much more chill, cravings subside and it becomes almost easy to eat well.
But, if one of those things get out of whack, pretty soon my whole healthy living mojo just falls apart. Aaaaand, since life seems to always get crazy from time to time, it’s just bound to happen…again and again.
It seems like as life gets extra busy, I grow weary, my sleep usually suffers as I try to keep up with everything…..and then the crappy food looks so much more appetizing and simple, exercise seems impossible and pretty soon I find myself way off track and wonder how in the world I got there!?
BUT, I’ve just learned to get back to work and never quit! I always focus on getting my sleep first and then everything else just seems to fall back in line.
Soooooo, that’s exactly what I’m going to do next week, after this race and all the craziness of May is over! Rest, refocus, plan, recommit, and get back at it!
Summer sounds really nice right about now. I’m really hoping to have a little more time to chill, work on projects around the house and spend time with the fam!
Well, I gotta go so I can get ready for our race!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Welcome JUNE!!!
