I’ve been a busy, busy lady this week! In fact, my schedule is pretty much crazy the rest of the week.
Sigh.
I’m just going to take it one day at a time.
First off, these two cuties are in swimming lessons every morning this week…
They’ve been having a ball and it’s been fun to watch their progress in swimming.
My ten year old is also in swimming lessons Tuesday and Thursday evenings for the next three weeks. Yes, I’ve pretty much been living at the Rec Center. We’ve also been going to the Rec Center on Saturdays for my son’s soccer games too.
Despite the craziness it causes me, I really love our Rec Center and all the programs/classes they offer.
I also have a million random appointments and obligations this week; not to mention the typical day-to-day stuff I do on a regular basis. It’s pretty insane.
Daylight Savings has also messed me up! I LOVE the extra daylight, but it’s interesting how that ONE hour time change can have such an affect on me.
I’ve stayed up way too late the past couple of nights and consequently, have been so so tired and draggy because of it. I haven’t eaten quite as well as I usually do either. 🙁 I haven’t been terrible, but I’ve definitely been grabbing things that are quick and easy; not necessarily healthy.
I’m sorry to be such a downer, but it’s amazing to me how much sleep deprivation and craziness can zap my healthy motivation.
Sleep really is the X Factor in healthy living.
When I’m disciplined and get 7-8 hours of sleep at night, I feel refreshed, motivated and determined. However, as soon as I become sleep deprived and stressed out, all of my healthy motivation goes out the window. I also seem to crave crappy foods that will give my body a “quick pick me up.” It’s also ten times harder to exercise when I have no gas in the tank.
Anyway, on a brighter note, I know I’ll get back my normal groove soon….I just have to survive the next several days. 😉
Well, I did end up taking the kids on a walk to the park last Friday night. We had a lot of fun and I was SO GLAD we went. I put my youngest in the stroller and the other kids either walked or rode their scooters and bikes…
When we got to the park, the kids played on the playground and we had a lot of fun racing across the baseball field. Jimmer (the dog) LOVED racing too and, of course, he always won.
Note: Jim is the little furry blur you see in the left hand side of the picture.
My ten year old is a pretty fast runner and very competitive, so he kept wanting to race me. I am a slow and pathetic runner right now, so he kept saying, “Come on mom, I want you to really run as fast as you can!”
I kept reminding him that I am a wuss and I WAS running as fast as I could! He was a little disappointed, so I encouraged him to race the dog instead. 😉
Anyway, we had a great time and I’m sure we’ll be doing it again soon. Also, I estimated we ran/walked about 2 miles total. Not awesome, but I’ll take it considering I had 3 kids and a dog in tow. 😉
Well, aside from my sluggishness and crappy eating problems, I’ve still been trying to eat as well as I can. I was craving cereal this morning (probably because it’s a quick carb, and my body needed some energy), so I opted for a bowl of Special K mixed with Nature’s Path Pumpkin Flax Granola.
I topped my cereal with some blueberries and it tasted wonderful! I also decided to cut up some hard boiled eggs (mostly whites) on the side so I could get some protein in as well.
I’ve still been loving Protein Pancakes most mornings.
Yesterday, I topped mine with some peanut butter, blueberries, bananas and sugar free syrup and it tasted so good to me. I also had some scrambled eggs (1 egg + 2 whites) on the side topped with tomatoes and low sugar ketchup.
I love to make a big batch of protein pancakes and store them in the freezer. It makes breakfast a snap. I went to my normal class at the gym on Saturday and before I left, I threw a Protein pancake in the toaster, topped it with peanut butter and ate it on my way to class.
I also brought a half of a banana with me and ate it on the way home.
So yummy and so simple.
We made tacos for dinner again last night (Kev’s request) and everyone loved them. I can’t say tacos are my favorite, but they are so simple to make and ALL of my kids eat them! I always make mine into a taco salad and love to throw all sorts of things in there…
I used some of the Power Greens I bought the other day and topped them with turkey taco meat, fat free refried beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, cheese, low fat sour cream and salsa. I also broke up some Food Should Taste Good chips on top. YUM!
I cut up a fresh pineapple and some kiwi fruit on the side too. Everyone gobbled that right up!
On a crappier food note, I ordered pizza for dinner tonight!! Kev had to be at a work function tonight and I was busy running the kids everywhere all night long. Soooo, pizza worked. I also intended to make a salad to go with it, but I DID NOT. If you’re wondering why, scroll back up to the top of this post and read the first few paragraphs. 😉
I truly try to eat well and feed my family well most of the time, but we definitely enjoy our crappy food indulgences too! I won’t mention the ice cream cones I bought for everyone earlier today either. Hee hee.
Yes, I’ve had issues today. I better wrap this post up and go to bed so I can have a better day tomorrow, huh?
Oh, I thought I would share my 17 weeks pregnant picture I took on Sunday…
I really felt like my belly popped this week, even though you can’t really tell in this hoodie. Also, the jeans I’m wearing are some of the last jeans that still fit me. In fact, I used to LOVE these jeans and this hoodie because they were loose on me and so comfy. Well, they’re not quite so loose anymore. In fact, I’m pretty much poured into them.
I feel just like Chris Farley on Tommy Boy…
)
Too funny. I love and miss Chris Farley. He was a riot.
Anyway, I decided to break out the maternity clothes the other day. I dusted off my boxes in the basement and decided to check out the inventory…
I have several decent options in there, but MAN, there were some SCARY things in there too!!! Eeeee.
Yes, I had several pairs of “mom jeans.” It doesn’t get much worse than maternity style “mom jeans” either. Check out that two foot long rise and the small, high pockets. Who in the world ever thought those were cute??!
Apparently me, geesh.
Oh, and yes, I did wear those once. I remember wearing them with my first pregnancy in 1998. I may have also worn them when I was pregnant with my daughter in 2001 too. I have no idea why I’ve hung onto them though!
Oh, and check out that darling shirt too!!??? OH MY WORD, what was I thinking!?
Needless to say, I’ve decided I’m going to buy a few new things with this pregnancy. I don’t want to buy too much though because I know I’ll never wear them again. I’ll probably just get a few things and wear them over and over again.
Well, that’s all for now folks. I need to hit the hay! Hopefully, I’ll have more healthy motivation and oomph for y’all next time. In the meantime, we can all just keep pluggin’ along, right?

Maternity clothes are bad but post maternity clothes are the worst! I survived my pregnancy with one pair of maternity jeans, one pair of black dress pants and a whole lot of leggings with tunics. While I was comfy the whole time (required) I don’t think I’ll be able to look at leggings again for a while. My post maternity wardrobe is pathetic. I’m just hanging on with the bare minimum and praying to fit into my ‘real’ summer clothes by May.
Melanie says
I agree about the post maternity clothes!! It’s so depressing to still be in big baggy clothes and not be pregnant. 🙁 I’ve been wanting to get some leggings and tunics for this pregnancy. I think they’re so cute, but I’m sure I’ll want to burn everything once the pregnancy is over!

I laughed and laughed at this post, partly from Fat Guy in a Little Coat, but not all due to that.
You brought back memories of when my teenagers were little. They thought I ran like the wind, I was so fast!
Then I remembered the time my son wanted wanted to race and I said Yes, but he replied he meant that he wanted to race his little sister, not me, because she was fast enough to make him feel challenged, and I wasn’t! LOL
Melanie says
I could laugh at Chris Farley all day long. Love him! That cracks me up about your son wanting to race his sister so it would be a challenge. Too funny!

Maternity clothes have gotten so much cuter!! I spent plenty of time in the tent tops and I much prefer the more fitted stuff that is popular now!!
I don’t think you should feel bad about the pizza – we all do it!!! It’s part of why we work so hard, right?!
And, I’m like you – on taco night I usually skip the tortilla and just make a salad – a huge one but….
Melanie says
I’m amazed at how far maternity clothes have come! In fact, I’m amazed at how much cuter baby stuff is too. I love all the new soft blankets, car seats and cute car seat covers!

The maternity clothes I see look so modern. You should buy a few new things to your wardrobe. You deserve it! You cold always donate them to Goodwill. Or save for baby number 7……?? Of course I’m lol-ing!
Melanie says
I know, there are SO MANY cute maternity clothes out there! I’m sure I’ll get a few things to help spruce up the rest of my scary wardrobe. I will certainly not be saving them for baby #7 though, LOL!!

This post was too funny!! Good luck with all the busyness!! It sounds quite hectic to me!! Haha

You are really the skinniest pregnant lady I have ever seen! I think you look so great! Those kids must be tiring you out though with all their activities and running! 🙂
Melanie says
Oh my word, you just made my day! However, I certainly don’t feel like a skinny pregnant lady, lol!
Reba- Not So Perfect Life says
I have weeks where I feel sluggish too. Usually when I’ve just done a lot of traveling for work or had a killer weak in the gym. Its like my body is trying to tell me to slow down! Keep at it! YOu will be back to your old self soon enough.
Melanie says
Thanks! I happens to me a lot too. It’s always a good reminder to me to slow down and take it easy.

Those maternity clothes are too funny! And OMG what is it like to see grass, haha! I haven’t seen grass in MONTHS due to this crummy snow. 🙁 Also, pizza now and again is always a good idea!
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
I love the extra daylight at night, but it through me way off too.
Alex @ Kenzie Life says
You look amazing! Your kids and dog are adorable and it sounds like you are super busy right now! I have a feeling that when the time comes for me to have kids, I’m going to be hanging out in leggings a lot 🙂 Who am I kidding, I do that now and I’m not pregnant.

Oh my heavens, I’ve had the same feelings going through my maternity clothes… to give them to a friend! Mostly I said I was sorry and didn’t have very many cute things to give!!! Why would I hold onto some of these things? How quickly we change!
We had a snow day a couple of days ago… it was like a weekend, of which I always over-eat… right in the middle of the week. Blahhh. I was so happy to send the kids off to school. The routine of normal life helps me!

you should keep your maternity clothes.
My mother happened to keep her maternity clothes in the attic.
I know what she was wearing when she was pregnant with me.

Geez girl, you still can’t tell you are pregnant! Wow! I laughed out loud at the jeans! I hear ya on the sleep thing….without proper or adequate sleep, I tend to feel really queasy, get headaches and just grumpy and only want chocolate, lol!
Melanie says
Those jeans are SO SO scary!! I’ve definitely been a zombie this past week as I’ve struggled to get my sleep. I’m slowly, but surely returning to normal though and enjoying lots of chocolate as I recover. 🙂
