Date Night, a Weird Lunch and Easy Sloppy Joes

November 15, 201313 Comments

Happy Friday one and all!

I really love Fridays and weekends so much!

Kev and I go on a date most Friday nights and I look forward to it all week long.

It really is necessary for my sanity.

When our kids were younger, we only went on dates maybe once a month, probably even less.  I can’t tell you how nice it is to have built in babysitters who actually want to babysit!

Love it.

We’ll probably go see a movie tonight.  I’d really like to see Thor because I LOVE him….oh, I mean I think it looks like a good movie.

Hee hee.

Speaking of movies…have you heard about the NOAH (as in the Ark) movie that’s coming out next spring??  It’s stars Russell Crowe, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson and sounds amazing!

I always wondered how he fit all those animals into that ark.  I’m hoping the movie will answer that question for me. 😉

I’m going to be involved in a campaign promoting this movie next spring.  Sounds like fun!  Anyway, check out this trailer.  It looks very cool!

I hope you guys have some fun plans set for this evening. 😉

Moving on….

I had a very weird lunch today…

Weird sweet potato fries and yogurt lunch

Leftover sweet potato fries from dinner the other night and some raspberry Chobani yogurt.  Yum.

I also got to enjoy it with this little cutie…

I’m a huge fan of leftovers and I hate wasting food.

In fact, we had “leftover night” for dinner last night.  A couple of my kids had tacos, some had Sloppy Joes and Kev and I finished up the chicken and veggies stir-fry.

Love it.

We had Sloppy Joes for dinner a couple nights ago.  I have a couple great Sloppy Joe recipes, but we had a crazy night so I just used this…

Heinz Sloppy Joe Sauce

Yes, Heinz Home Style Sloppy Joe sauce.  It’s not gourmet, obviously, but it’s definitely a “mom sanity saver.”  I also loved that the ingredient list was all real and normal stuff.  There’s no high fructose corn syrup…yippee!

It pretty much tasted like glorified ketchup, but the kids loved it.  I used lean ground turkey instead of ground beef and added some onions to the mix too.

I also made some homemade fries (everyone loves those!) and some sweet potato fries too (not as many love those, dang it.)

Sweet Potato Fries

I also made a quick, rather weird salad.  It was just romaine, orange peppers and craisins.  Weird, but surprisingly yummy.  Here’s my plate…

Sloppy Joes, Sweet Potato Fries and Salad

Oh, and my kids had theirs on regular buns like normal people.  I know this meal isn’t impressive, but it was tasty, easy and somewhat healthy.

AND, all my kids ate it without complaining.  LOVE IT.

Oh, and I have a funny picture to share.  Yesterday after dinner, I asked if any of the kids wanted to read stories before bed.  I told whoever was interested to get in their jammies, grab a book and join me on the couch.

Well, I had a lot of takers!  Kev even decided to join us too, which was nice!

Reading bedtime stories with the kids and dog

Cute Jimmy, the dog even jumped in the mix too.

I love, love, love reading with my kiddos.  My old kids still love it too.  We ended up reading for about 45 minutes!  Oh, and I look scary because I went to a class at the gym last night. 😉

It was a great class and I about died.  Love it.

Well, I gotta run.  I hope y’all have a wonderful Friday.  Woo hoo.

I haven’t had sloppy joes in ages. It’s such a tasty, easy meal. Your story night looks like so much fun. Is that veggie Tails I see?? Enjoy your date night.

I know, we hadn’t had Sloppy Joes forever either! My 10 year old requested them. 😉 Yes, we have a couple Veggie Tale books and they’re the best!

So fun with the family all piled in to read – I miss those days!! I always forget about sloppy joes but when we do have them, I eat mine like you (no bun!).
Can’t wait to hear more about how you are going to be involved in promoting the Noah’s Ark movie.

Thanks so much. We hadn’t made Sloppy Joes in a long time either. I really love the simplicity of them and that all my kids will eat them!

I love sweet potato fries, but mien always end up soggy instead of crispy.

Some of mine were a little soggy too, but they still tasted great. I think sweet potatoes have a lot more moisture in them, so they stay softer. I imagine if you cooked them at a lower temperature for longer, they would work out better….but I usually don’t have time for that!

BAHHHHH HA HA HA HA HA HA!! I am officially intrigued by this NOAH movie. I too am now thinking “how did he get all those animals in that ark” – I guess all of our questions will be answered? Meh… NOT REALLY thanks to all the crazy CGI in movies these days, but it still sounds awesome! 🙂 Have you seen the Maleficant trailer yet?! OMG OMG – You must!

I just watched the trailer for Maleficent and it looks amazing! I hadn’t even heard of the movie yet. Angelina Jolie looks like the perfect pick to play her!
