Yes, I’m still alive!
I’ve been feelin’ pretty blah from the pregnancy, but I do have good days and bad days. I’ve been trying to “chill” on the bad days and be ultra productive on the good days.
It seems to work.
I also bought some Mama Sea-Bands to see if they would help with the nausea. They’re basically bands you wear on your wrists that use acupressure to supposedly relieve nausea.
Ya, I know it’s weird.
Kev says they’re a “gimmick” and the kids think they’re “voodoo,” but I’m pretty desperate.
And ya, I don’t think they’re working. Dang.
I’ve found that as long as I don’t eat too much at one time and don’t eat things that are too greasy or “heavy,” I do much better. I’ve been craving carbs (of course!), but I’ve been trying to pair them with some protein because I’ve heard the protein relieves morning sickness.
Oh, and I don’t know WHO IN THE HECK named it “morning sickness” because it’s more like “ALL DAY LONG” sickness! Geesh.
This morning, we made some yummy blueberry pancakes using my mother-in-law’s wonderful fluffy pancake recipe.
I also made some scrambled eggs and everything tasted so good to me. YUM!
I’ve been lovin’ blueberries lately. We bought a big container at Costco this week and they have been fabulous. I’ve been eating them plain and putting them in my yogurt and on my oatmeal.
They’re heavenly.
I’ve also been loving bowls of cold cereal. My favorites have been Chex and Special K with a little bit of Nature’s Path Pumpkin Flax Granola mixed in.
It’s also yummy with sliced bananas on top. Sooooo good.
I’ve been making totally random things for dinner. I never know what’s going to sound good to me.
The other night I was craving brown rice (weird!??), so I found a yummy recipe on All Recipes.com for Sweet and Sour Meatballs on rice. It turned out so good.
I ended up doubling the sauce and using ground turkey instead of ground beef. I also decreased the brown sugar a little bit (I used 3/4 cup instead of a cup.)
Normally, I would have gotten creative and tried to decrease the sugar even more, but I wanted to keep it simple. It was sure yummy and I enjoyed it for lunch a couple times too.
Well, my workouts have definitely been hit or miss. I still feel a little weird from my migraine experience sometimes, which freaks me out.
If I have a particularly stressful day or when I workout too hard, I start to get a dull headache and my right arm starts to feel tingly. Yes, it’s weird. It’s nothing too major, but I’m trying to listen to my body.
FYI, I had a similar neurological issue several years ago after a particularly stressful time in my life. I didn’t have the whole “migraine” thing, but I just had tingling, twitches and weirdness in the right side of my body. After going to the doctor and going through a million tests, they determined nothing was wrong with me and it was just caused by stress.
Yes, I was severely stressed out at the time. In a nutshell, Kev was very, very sick for several months and I literally worried myself sick about him. It was a tough time. ANYWAY, I made a conscious effort to decrease my stress and the symptoms eventually went away. It took about 6 months though.
Well, I’ve been having a ton of stress in my life lately too, so I’m not surprised I’ve been having similar issues. I’m just trying to relax as much as I can. I’m expecting to still feel “weird” for a while though. I’ll keep y’all posted.
I’m just grateful there’s not something seriously wrong with me….at least not that I know of. 😉
ANYWAY, I’ve been working out from home and it’s been great for now. I came up with a WONDERFUL workout the other day that I loved. I took a small break in the middle of the workout so I wouldn’t stress my body out too much, but other than that, it was perfect. I definitely worked my upper body hard and was sore the next day.
Loved it! Here it is…

I hope this workout makes sense to y’all. I basically ran on the treadmill 5 minutes at a time and then performed a few upper body exercises between each cardio interval. I ended up running 30 minutes (3 miles) total and it was great. I LOVED breaking up the run into 5 minute intervals…it seriously helped with the monotony of it all.
I even had my “photographers” snap a few pics of me while I worked out. I only had my 3 and 5 year old photographers home at the time, but they did great! A little crooked and blurry….but I was proud of them. They’re cuties.
Oh, and one of the perks of working out form home is that I can look like this! I literally threw my hair on top of my head and got to work. Awesome.
Anyway, that’s all for now! I will continue to plug along and count down the days until I feel 100%. I’m still happy and grateful for all I have and all the wonderful people in my life. I also can’t wait to have a sweet baby in our home again.
I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend!

You’re really looking great, Melanie, despite not feeling well. Hang in there. I’m sure the all day sickness will pass soon.

That’s so awesome that you are still working out and I’m proud of you for being smart and not overdoing it and listening to your body. That’s so important. I can totally relate to stress and believe that it totally can make us sick. Hang in there and rest and relax as best you can. You have a great family that will take care of you. Those pancakes look delicious too!
Melanie says
Thank you so much! It’s been really tough to continue to exercise, but it does make me feel a little better. 😉 I have been trying to relax and calm down a bit too and it’s been wonderful.

I’m with you. It’s offensive when people call pregnancy nausea “morning sickness” instead of “all day off and on for several months sickness!”
I love your positive attitude throughout it all!
Melanie says
Thanks so much…I’ve been trying so hard to be positive. It’s tough at times. I think the whole “morning sickness” stuff is for the birds. 😉

Oh no!!!! I hope you start to feel better soon. I actually had very similar symptoms on my right side earlier this year and they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. Likely caused by stress too! Thinking of you!
Melanie says
I’m sorry you’ve had neurological stuff too! I know you and I are both high stress people! I’ve really been trying to calm down and am hoping to feel 100% again soon.

I am amazed your babies took those pictures, they are really good.
Also, I think that is a great way to workout. I get so bored of the treadmill and breaking it up really helps.
I hope you start to feel better soon.
Melanie says
I know, I was surprised the pictures turned out too! I really have to get creative on the treadmill or I hate it. 😉

Not sure if you have tried it yet but ginger tea and ginger ale are great natural remedies. Good luck.
Melanie says
I tried that with some of my other pregnancies and didn’t feel much relief, unfortunately. Thanks so much for the suggestion though!

I’m so sorry you haven’t been feeling well. I guess it is comforting to know that it will all eventually get better and nothing is seriously wrong. You look really great though! I think your photos came out awesome. I also LOVE your workout printable! 🙂
Melanie says
I know, I can’t wait until I feel better again. I told Kev and the kids we’re going to have a party when I’m not sick anymore!
Susan says
I hope you feel better soon Mel!! That sweet little baby is causing you illness but I am sure it’s worth it. Take care. 🙂
Melanie says
Thanks so much. You’re a sweetie.

Bummer that you feel like crap – hopefully it’ll pass soon. I miss oatmeal. I’ve been sticking to eggs only in the morning and that oatmeal with pb and blueberries looks delish right now! I’m totally the same way when I workout at home. I don’t care if I match or if my hair is all over – its great!
Melanie says
Thanks! I love oatmeal so much! I love eggs too though, especially when I’m trying to tone up or slim down. I love the perks of home workouts too!
Alex @ Kenzie Life says
I hope you start feeling better! Have you ever had blueberries on top of applesauce? That’s my favorite way to eat them. I take unsweetened applesauce, top it with blueberries and a swirl of agave nectar and pop it in the microwave so the blueberries get all soft. I think it’s delicious!
Melanie says
Wow, that sounds awesome. I’ll have to try it! Thanks for the tip.
Emily says
Sorry you are not feeling well. Those wrist bands were the only way I functioned through the first and part of the second trimester! They are amazing. To bad they are not working for you:( Hope you feel better soon and congratulations!
Melanie says
Thanks so much! I’m glad to hear the wristbands worked out for you! I keep trying them on and off again, but haven’t noticed much relief. Dang it.

You look amazing! I also love the workout routine that you posted! Will definitely give it a try!
