The Best Breadsticks Ever...Seriously!
Author: Melanie @ HappyBeingHealthy.com
Serves: 15
- 1½ cups water
- 1 tablespoon yeast
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3½ cups flour (I used 4 cups)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup butter
- Parmesan cheese
- garlic salt
- parsley flakes
- Combine water, yeast, and sugar in large bowl. Allow to sit until yeast mixture is bubbly.
- In medium bowl combine flour and salt.
- Once yeast is bubbly, add dry ingredients and knead for 2 minutes (I used the dough hook on my Kitchen Aid mixer.)
- **If dough is super sticky, add small amounts of flour until dough stops sticking to sides**
- Cover bowl with clean dishcloth and let rise 20 minutes.
- While dough is rising, preheat oven to 400°F.
- Melt cube of butter and pour onto large cookie sheet (jelly roll pan.)
- Sprinkle the melted butter with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese (I sprinkled the garlic salt evenly around the pan and the parmesan cheese liberally!)
- Roll the dough into a rectangle about the size of the cookie sheet (it doesn’t need to be perfect.)
- Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into one inch wide strips.
- Take a strip of dough, fold it in half and twist it to form the bread stick.
- Roll each bread stick around in the butter in the pan until completely covered.
- Set the breadsticks in the pan, moving them around as necessary until each breadstick has been covered with the butter mixture.
- Arrange the breadsticks in the pan and sprinkle tops with a little more garlic salt, Parmesan cheese and parsley.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until they are lightly golden brown on top.
- Enjoy!
