Tomorrow is Friday AND Valentine’s Day! Yay.
I’m so excited and love that Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year. 😉
Well, I have to say I was so happy to hit 2,000 likes on my Facebook page recently. Woo hoo.
Thank you SO MUCH to all of you who have supported and “liked” me. I appreciate it more than you know. Seriously, every single little “like” makes me smile. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
BUT, I have to vent for a sec…
I really LOVE Facebook as a personal user. It’s so much fun to connect with so many people and peek into the lives of long lost friends. I love it.
However I really DON’T love Facebook as a business user. Yuck. They really have serious issues. For example, I have over 2,000 people who have liked my page, but lately Facebook’s only been showing my posts to 100 to 200 of those people! Don’t you think that’s crazy!??
Yes, Facebook wants me to PAY them to show my posts to people who have already liked my page! That is so jacked!! Yes, it bugs me really bad.
Sooooo, if you have “liked” my page and would actually like to see updates when I post them, then here’s what you do….
- Visit my Facebook page here.
- Then hover over the button that says “Liked.”
- You will see a drop down menu appear with an option that says “Get Notifications.”
- Click on that and then you will actually be able to see my updates in your News Feed!
I hope that made sense. I’m seriously so bugged at Facebook. I even thought about shutting down my page altogether because I don’t want to play their little game. Can you tell I’m bugged!?? Yes.
Anyway, moving on to happier things!
I made a really yummy dinner tonight that I loved! I had some leftover turkey in the freezer, so I decided to make a Turkey Pot Pie!
It’s not pretty, but it was awesome!
I used a recipe I found online at CookingLight.com. It was a bit of a pain to make, but it turned out so yummy!
Cooking Light calculated this recipe to be 310 calories per serving (1/8th of the recipe), which is great for such a large portion! It tasted wonderful too and every bit as good as a full fat/calorie version.
Next time I make it, I may even decrease the salt and crust a bit to make it even healthier. We’ll see….
I served it tonight along with some fresh pineapple. My kids gobbled it up and a few of them even had seconds.
I actually went back for seconds too. It was such a yummy comfort food meal!

I also helped my little cute kindergartener make a Valentine’s box today too. He told me he wanted a “Batman box” and here’s what we came up with…
I obviously helped with the Bat, but he loved decorating with all the stickers. He was quite proud of himself.
I took several pictures of my cutie patootie with his box, but my poor child doesn’t know how to smile naturally.
He’s a doll. LOVE this kid!

I went to lunch with my mom and sister (and a couple of our kidlets) a couple days ago for an “after birthday” outing. We went to California Pizza Kitchen and it was divine!
I actually shared a pizza and salad with my mom.
We got the Pear + Gorgonzola Crispy Thin Crust pizza (Bosc pears, sweet caramelized onions and hazelnuts, topped with chilled field greens in housemade Gorgonzola ranch) on a whole wheat crust AND a small Caramelized Peach salad (Field greens, spinach, warm caramelized peaches, cranberries, red onions, toasted pecans and Gorgonzola tossed in housemade white balsamic vinaigrette.)
Holy crap, I’m here to say that is some of the best food on the planet! That pizza is absolutely heavenly!
Seriously, if you have a California Pizza Kitchen near you, you HAVE to try that pizza. Ahhhh-mazing.
Sadly, the pizza packs a 1420 calorie punch, but it is HUGE! My mom and I each had two slices and took the rest home. The salad is only 450 calories, but I imagine most of those calories are in the dressing. Next time, I’ll ask for it on the side.
We had a fun afternoon and went shopping at the mall for a bit afterward.

I also have to say that I WENT TO THE GYM with Kev on Tuesday night and I loved it! I just went to the Golds Gym Express because it’s a lot closer to my house. I absolutely killed my upper body and then I ran on the treadmill for a mile.
My shoulders, back and triceps have been so sore! I’m hoping to get on a more regular gym schedule soon. I think I’ll still stick with some home workouts and The Express Gym though for simplicity and time’s sake.
Oh, and I snapped a cheesy pic of Kev and I after our workout…
Yes, I know we’re dweeby.
Well, it’s late and I need to hit the hay. I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day tomorrow! AND, if you’re single and don’t have a special Valentine, I hope you still have a wonderful day spent with people you love. 😉
Oh, and I LOVE you all! Soooo, if you don’t have a Valentine, you can claim me. 🙂

Girl, you look fab! Can’t even tell you are pregnant in that picture! I agree on Facebook….so frustrating that things have changed so much, but it’s all about money. And think about it, we’ve all kind if been spoiled with the ease of it all for such a long time and it being free. I’ve just gotten more creative with my posts and getting some decent activity on them. Here are a couple of tricks you may or may not have discovered yet: don’t post the link in your post with your blog, instead put it in the comments. Facebook recognizes it as an “ad” and that reduces the amount of people who see it in newsfeed. Next, make your posts engaging with questions. For example, I post little teaser posts with just a photo of a yummy recipe and will ask a question of who wants the recipe or guess what the main ingredient is… Or things like that. Asking questions naturally causes people to respond… The more responses, the more the visibility of people that see it, increases 🙂

I don’t tend to use my FaceBook page much – sort of glad because I would be really frustrated if I did!
Hooray for getting back to the gym – hopefully you have felt better this week!!!
Cute picture of y’all!

Ya, Facebook has been frustrating! I hope I’ll feel better this week too (fingers crossed!)

I too hate all the new Facebook craziness.

That’s not even bad . I have almost 3K fans on FB and it sometimes only shows it to 50 people at a time. So dumb. Very annoying and definitely not business/fanpage friendly anymore and it sucks.
YAY for the gym and that turkey pot pie (yum)! I haven’t been to CPK in foreverrrr. I’m that wierdo that doesn’t care for pizza but I do like creative pizzas sometimes so I might have to make a return soon.

Facebook is so weird!! I can’t believe you don’t like pizza…I wish I didn’t love it as much as i do!!

Love the batman valentines box. My son went with Star Wars, however I showed him the batman one and unless things change (most likely they will) we will be making a batman box next year.
Melanie says
Thanks! It’s so much fun to make Valentine’s boxes with the kiddos. I’m sure your Star Wars one turned out cute!

It sounds like you’re able to do a lot more and not feeling as sick lately! 🙂 CPK is awesome. Pizza is one of my favorite foods…you know, because it’s amazing 😉 Benjamin is such a cutie and that box turned out great! The best box I made in elementary school was actually made by my mom but it was my idea. It was a “cheesecake” box. We took a hat box and my mom (who is an artist) painted the box to look like it had a chocolate crust, cheesecake in the middle and a “marbled” cheesecake look on the top. Then she put plaster on the sides to make it look like frosting. It’s kind of incredible and makes me miss elementary school. Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day! <3

I’ve been trying to slowly, but surely get back to normal as much as I can. Your cheesecake box sounds amazing!! It sounds like you have a wonderful mother!
Amber says
Mm, that pot pie looks fantastic.
Awesome Valentine’s Box!
