Well I hope you’re all having a great week! We’re starting to get used to the school schedule and it’s actually been kind of nice.
I know my kids thrive on a schedule. It’s good for all of us! They’ve also enjoyed being around other kids. It’s felt so good to have some semblance of normal ’round here again.
I’m also on week #2 with the Happy Being Healthy Fall Challenge!
You can still join if you’d like to! It’s free!
It’s a great six week challenge focusing on six healthy habits, plus anything else you’d like to work on.
Even though I strive to live a healthy-ish lifestyle most of the time, it’s been so good for me to dial up my efforts and improve my health. I gotta say, the past few months, my healthy lifestyle has been more of the “coasting variety.” I’ve just kind of given a half effort to most things.
So, since we started the Happy Being Healthy Fall Challenge last week, I’ve been a lot more purposeful and deliberate with my choices!
- I’ve been consistent with intermittent fasting
- I’m striving to have a giant protein shake full of so many good things every day!
- I’m really trying to get consistent sleep
- I’ve made more of a deliberate effort with my water consumption, self care and just being more mindful with my choices.
Consistency really is key!!
Really! When we strive to just keep making a valiant effort day after day, results happen and those results stick. When we have an “off” day or an “off” few days, we just need to get back to work!
There is no need for restrictive diets or crazy exercise regimes….we just need to settle into a nice and easy healthy lifestyle that improves our lives, our health and makes us happy! It needs to be something that blesses our lives so we actually enjoy sticking with it for the long haul!
One component of my lifestyle that’s always pretty consistent is my exercise. It’s just become like second nature to me. I teach three classes a week, which helps to keep me consistent. I also have a couple other classes I like to go to at the gym. Plus, walking is my new jam! I love to fit in a walk most days if I can. It’s actually more mental therapy for me, but the physical exercise is always a plus as well.
Soooooo, it sure feels good to be on a schedule and also back to deliberately working on some healthy goals. In this crazy world, it feels so good to reclaim my life again!
Well today I thought I would share five things that I’ve loved recently that have made me happy!
First off….our Sunday dinners!
This week Kev smoked chicken and baked potatoes and they were so so so good! I marinated the chicken in this marinade. We also had corn and sourdough bread (from Costco) on the side.
This meal was heavenly! It’s one of those meals that as soon as you’re done, you wish you could start all over and eat it again! Seriously heaven.
The Massage Chairs at the Gym
My gym has four of those water massage chair things and they are wonderful!
I love to relax on one for about 10 minutes after a class. It feels so nice to unwind and have it work on those muscles.
It’s like a beautiful 10 minute “check out of life and chill” moment for me. I love it and I’m grateful my gym has them!
This Magnesium Supplement
I kept hearing good things about this particular supplement, so when I saw it on sale at Costco, I got it!
It’s great.
Magnesium has a ton of health benefits, especially if you exercise regularly. I really liked this article by Healthline that talks about the many benefits of magnesium.
I did a challenge with Oxygen Magazine a couple of years ago and our coach, Amber Dodzweit Riposta recommended this supplement. I also had another personal trainer recommend it. AND then I went to a doctor appointment a few months ago and when I told her the supplements I was taking she said this brand of Magnesium was her favorite.
Awesome.
It’s recommended to take 1/3 of a scoop three times a day, but IMO ain’t nobody got time for that, so I take 1/2 scoop in the morning and another 1/2 scoop at night. Apparently Magnesium Citrate can give you digestive problems if you take too much of it at once, but I’ve been just fine with 1/2 scoop at a time. FYI.
This raspberry-lemon flavor tastes great too! In the morning I like to mix it in with my warm lemon water. At night I just mix it in cold water along with my collagen peptides.
BTW, I bought my magnesium at Costco, but you can also find it on Amazon.
Healthier Chocolate
I really love all of these yummy chocolate treats! I bought all of them at Costco.
These really are a lifesaver when I’m craving something sweet, but I don’t want to have something super indulgent and high in calories. All of these taste good, are made from decent ingredients, satisfy the sweet tooth and I only need a little bit to feel satisfied.
The JoJo’s Chocolate is probably the least sweet of the three, but I actually like that because I don’t feel like I need as much. I like to just break off a small piece and call it good.
The Bark Thins are probably my favorite. I love that they are already broken into perfectly sized pieces and I just think they taste awesome. I really love them.
The Dark Chocolate Nuggets are bomb, especially if you’re a coconut lover. They also come in small, easy to eat pieces.
All three of these are soooo yummy! I worried that having a giant Costco sized bag in the pantry would make me want to overindulge and eat aaaaaaaalllllll the chocolate, but it’s been just fine.
I love having it in the pantry when cravings hit, but I can definitely control myself around it. A little goes a long way.
My New Baby Great Niece
Y’all, this is my first “great niece” on my side of the family. My Nephew and his wife had their first baby. She is the first grandbaby on both sides and she is my mom’s first great grandbaby!!
Wow! I’m feelin’ old. I remember when my parents first became grandparents. I was 14 years old. I remember my mom buying toys and things to have at the house for when the grandkids came over.
Well folks, now I could be a grandma in not too many years! Ack! Actually I would looooove to be a grandma and I can’t wait until that day…..I just can’t believe that I’m starting to get to be that age! Whaaaaa?
Seriously peeps. I still feel 25 or even like 16!
Oh and isn’t my new great niece the sweetest??? She is teeny tiny. It’s hard to imagine that babies start out that small. I absolutely loved holding her!!! So much.
Life is good.
Well, that’s about all I have to share tonight.
