I’m happy to say that things are starting to sorta kinda return to somewhat normal! Even though I’m still VERY tired and VERY worn out, I think the hormones are starting to stabilize a bit. YAY!
I’m also happy to say that Carson is a wonderful sleeper!!! He’s definitely my best newborn sleeper yet. He had his days and nights figured out from day one, which is a miracle. He’s been sleeping for about 5 hours in one stretch the past couple nights and it’s been wonderful. Although, I still seem to wake up a million times every night just to make sure he’s still breathing.
Yes, I’m paranoid.
He’s sure a sweetie and I’m loving every single second with him. I can’t believe he’s 9 days old already. He’s growing up too fast. Sigh.
My kidlets have been enjoying him so so much! My two oldest would hold him all day long if I let them…
It’s been so helpful. Whenever they hold him, I run around the house like a crazy lady and try to clean up, change laundry, change the dishwasher, etc. before he needs to be fed again.
So far, it’s working out well.
*****************
Well, last week I pretty much allowed myself to eat whatever the heck I wanted. It was very fun. I was definitely in “survival mode” and a little sugar/salty/fatty/crappy food helped to lift the spirits a bit.
However, I knew I couldn’t eat that way for too long. Soooooo, this week I’ve decided to clean the diet up! I’ve been trying to eat as “real” as possible. I’ve been avoiding treats/sugary things, chips, fried foods and most processed foods.
It’s been a little tough, but it feels so good to be disciplined! It’s also nice to know that the scale can actually go DOWN for a change! We’ll see how it goes.
I’m not being super duper strict, but I’m just trying to eat higher quality things. Here are some of things I’ve been enjoying;
I had this for breakfast this morning….
1 egg + 3 egg whites scrambled with green onions, peppers, olives, turkey, tomatoes and avocado. I also had a whole wheat English Muffin on the side topped with a little butter and honey.
I had this for breakfast yesterday…
A breakfast burrito (using a La Tortilla Factory tortilla) filled with 1 egg, 3 egg whites, green onions, peppers, olives, turkey, tomatoes and a little cheese. I actually ended up eating this with a fork because I filled the tortilla too full. I seem to do that a lot, lol.
I had a really random lunch yesterday….
Leftover broccoli, salad and a Banana Protein Pancake topped with peanut butter. YUM!
AND, this was dinner last night…
A leftover enchilada topped with salsa, sour cream and avocado and a bunch of lettuce on the side.
This tasted so good to me! My sweet sister and her family brought us dinner on Sunday night. She made Chicken Enchiladas, Spanish rice, corn and salad.
My parent’s came out too and brought a bunch of yummy treats. It was a nice night and I even managed to take a selfie with Kev and my sis….
I’ve also been enjoying some yummy snacks. We bought a big ol’ box of green pears just before Carson was born, so this past week they were RIPE and ready to use!
We ended up making a bunch of dried pears. They are seriously so so good!
They are a very healthy snack, except I tend to OVERDOSE on them! I could easily eat 3-4 pears worth in one sitting, lol! I’ve tried to limit it to a couple of small handfuls per day.
I also made some of my Healthy Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins today.
My cute 6 year old was patiently waiting to eat one of these as I took this picture. That is his cute hand reaching out to grab one. Too funny.
I’ve also been allowing myself a few small handfuls of chocolate chips for good measure. I may loosen up a bit on the weekends too. We’ll see how it goes.
This seems to be a very practical and realistic diet for me right now. I hope it allows me to lose the baby weight at a decent rate. We’ll see. I imagine this type of diet will probably get me within 10 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight. At that point, I’ll probably have to tighten it up to lose the last bit of weight.
Of course, I’ll take pictures of my progress along the way! In fact, I took my first official “1 week postpartum” picture on Sunday. I feel very much like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.
I realize I probably should have worn “fitness-y clothes” to show the progress a little more. I’ve just been living in stretchy pants and comfy shirts, so that’s what I took my picture in! I’m hoping the arms/face/thighs/bum will deflate as I fill my body with real, healthy food! Fingers Crossed.
Well that’s all for now folks. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your Tuesday!

Great job! You look fantastic! Don’t be too hard on yourself, though I know how badly I wanted to get back to healthy-ish after I had mine as well. 🙂

You look fantastic. You absolutely don’t look like you just had a baby. I still looked about 6 months pregnant for several weeks afterwards.
So glad you have a sleeper! I don’t know if i would have survived if I didn’t have two good sleepers. It’s so helpful to have that block of time at night.
I love the picture of your daughter holding the baby. What a super sweet photo. Her eyes are beautiful.
Melanie says
Thanks so much! I’m so grateful he’s a good sleeper too! I’ve had a few babies that ARE NOT good sleepers and it’s torture! So far, little Carson has been an angel baby….I’m hoping he stays that way, lol. Thanks for your kind words about my daughter. I’ll tell her what you said and I’m sure it will make her day. 🙂
Jennifer says
I agree with everyone else…you look amazing after one week!!! Wow! The baby is so adorable…wish I could hold him. So nice your big kids can help. Your daughter is beautiful and Carson looks so sweet cuddled up on her neck!
Melanie says
Thanks so much! We are enjoying having a baby in our home SO MUCH! I’m so thankful to have so many helpers and people to hold him as well.
Anne says
First, congratulations on the new baby! He’s just beautiful. Enjoy every second of newborn love, as you have well learned, it goes too quickly. I joke that’s why I had so many.
And bravo to you for staying healthy during your pregnancy. I put on ungodly amounts of weight while pregnant, and after my sixth and seventh, decided to take back my body. I’ve lost 65 pounds. But it wasn’t easy!
This Summer I’ve not been as healthy as I should, and a touch of the weight has come back. Less than 10 pounds, but it’s still significant, and I’ve had to redouble my efforts.
Thank you for the inspiration. If you can look that good after a week, I have no excuse!
Melanie says
Good for you for losing 65 pounds! That’s amazing! I know how hard it can be to lose/maintain weight. I’m very much looking forward to getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight/body once and for all. I know it’s going to be tough and I’m sure I’ll have to really “get down to business” in order to lose it all.

Baby pictures. OMG, baby pics! So sweet! You are so beautiful, and your healthy lifestyle shows in how you already look great after a week. It will be fun to watch you continue to shrink!
Melanie says
Thanks so much Deborah. I can’t wait to watch me shrink too, lol! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I will!

You look phenomenal!! So happy for you! Give yourself time and don’t stress….that’s not the most important thing. Rest and being with your baby are..time is short. You will bounce back! That picture of your daughter holding him is the sweetest pic I’ve ever seen, I just was like “awwwwwwww”!!
Melanie says
Thanks so much! I know I’m impatient to get back to my old self again, but I know it will take time. In the meantime, I’m enjoying every second with our little babe!

Your post partum pic is also awesome – keep it up, mama!

Oh my gosh Melanie! He is so adorable! Five hours!?! Can you please rub that off onto my baby!? If his current kicking schedule is any indication, he does NOT want me to sleep at night!!
You do not look like the marshmallow man at all! You look fab!
Melanie says
I hope, hope you get a good sleeper! It was been so nice. When I was pregnant, my baby was most active at night too!

I was reading your posts…. They are truly great! I love your health food, and pacing yourself to get back to healthy-ish 🙂
I am just trying to start my own blog that is similar to this regarding eating healthy and exercise.. I am new to the blogging scene, and also to all this fitness, portion control, and healthy eating. I struggled with weight loss after I had my kids, then I got pretty ill and lost too much weight in my opinion. Now that I am healthier, I have gained some weight back, and I am struggling with losing it …I look forward to continuing to follow your blog, and reference your blog in mine! Thanks for your great posts!
http://themysterri.wordpress.com is my site if you are interested! Thanks!
Melanie says
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you found my blog! I know how tough it can be to lose weight and figure out things with fitness and healthy eating. It’s tough, but so rewarding! I’ll definitely check out your blog.
