Hey guys! I can’t believe my half marathon is TOMORROW!
Eeek!
I’m actually really excited. It sounds like so much FUN to run down a beautiful mountain canyon early in the morning, listening to motivational music surrounded by other inspiring runners! The weather might be interesting though…the temperature should be perfect (in the 50s), but it might be rainy too. Dang it!
Kev and I actually got our last LONG run in last Saturday IN THE RAIN! We kept waiting all day for the rain to stop, but it never did. Soooo, we just decided to run anyway…
It actually turned out to be a great run! We ran eleven miles again, but this time I loved it. The first 3-4 miles were tough; I felt sluggish and heavy, but then the next 5-6 miles were pretty decent and then the last mile I felt great! Weird? I actually sprinted the last mile! SO WEIRD?
I also felt really good afterward too. I wasn’t really all that sore and seemed to “bounce back” pretty quickly. In comparison, after the eleven mile run we ran the week before, I felt like I’d been run over by a bus! I was sore for days afterward and became aware of muscles I didn’t even know I had. The muscles in my NECK were even sore!
Ya, I didn’t feel any of that after this last run. We ran about the same pace both times too! It’s always so fascinating to me how different my runs and recoveries can be.
Case in point, I ran 4.5 miles last night and it was tough! The distance seemed easy and short, but my body just didn’t want to run. I pretty much labored the entire time. Ya, that’s not too good for the morale. I hope my body cooperates tomorrow!
Anyway, after our long run on Saturday, Kev and I got some Chili’s takeout. We decided to try their Fresh Mex Rice Bowls and they were pretty darn good!
Here’s a closer look at my bowl…
Yum! It kinda reminded me of a Cafe Rio (local Mexican Restaurant) salad, but Cafe Rio is better I must say.
It was sure fun to hang out and enjoy good food with my sweetheart after a long run together though! We kept giving each other the occasional “fist bump” and reminded each other that we were “hard core” (since we ran in the rain!) Ya, we’re dweebs. But, our “dweebiness” works out really well together and I’m so grateful! I love that man of mine!
Well, I thought I’d tell you all that I had a great Mother’s Day. I really love Mother’s Day!!! My kiddos are always on their best behavior and if any of them act up, I can just pull the “Mother’s Day card” and they shape up pretty quickly. Ha ha. Kev’s always such a sweetie to me as well and helps out so much.
Kev brought me home some beautiful flowers on Friday night!
They were absolutely gorgeous and ginormous! I kept lovingly referring to them as my “Flower Tree.”
I really love flowers! They are so beautiful, smell so nice and make the house so cheerful. I just wish they would never DIE.
Kev also made me a BEAUTIFUL omelet on Sunday morning. I’ve told you guys before that he is an “expert omelet maker” and I’m not even kidding….
I told him it was too beautiful to eat. He filled it with ham, turkey, green onions, peppers, olives and cheese and topped it with a little sour cream (that made it SOOO good!) and some avocado. He also made it with one whole egg and several egg whites; just the way I like it! I told him it was the best omelet I’d ever had and I’m serious.
He should open up an omelet restaurant. He could also serve Top Ramen, “Mountain Man Breakfast,” gravy and nachos since those are his specialties too! Ha ha.
On Monday, I TRIED to make myself an omelet like Kev’s and here’s what I got…
Um ya.
It still tasted good (we were out of avocados though), but not nearly as good as his!
He told me the “key” to making an omelet look decent and not fall apart is to use TWO pans. When it comes time to flip it, just put another pan on top of the other pan and turn it upside down. Well, I tried that trick and it didn’t work too well for me. I’m going to keep trying though!
Oh, and I also told you guys that I’ve been trying to eat really well these last 6 weeks before my race. Well, I ate very well the first three weeks and I’ve been struggling these last three! I’ve still been eating well, but I’ve been justifying too many things in the name of “carb loading.” Ha ha.
I must say that I can pass up most treats, but there is something about HOMEMADE treats that is near and dear to my heart. Just the act of making cookies or brownies can lift my spirits. I know that’s not a good thing.
In my defense, I’ve had a LOT on my plate lately (figuratively and literally, ha ha!) and have been dealing with some stressful things. The occasional dose of sugar has definitely helped me get through it!
But, the madness has to end. So, I’m in the process of coming up with some new goals that I will start on Monday. My race is tomorrow, I’m taking Sunday as a recovery day and then I’m going to put my “big girl panties” on on Monday and get back to work! I’m excited.
I love making new goals! The hardest part (by far!) is just getting started and getting that first week under my belt. After that first week, I’m golden.
Soooo, wish me luck tomorrow! I hope, hope, hope I feel good, the body cooperates and the weather holds up!
I will definitely post some pics from the race on my social media tomorrow, so if you feel so inclined, you can follow me here…
I hope each and every one of you have a fabulous weekend! I love you all. Mwah! xoxo

I love running in the rain. I know it’s hard to get started, but for some reason the chill air helps me stay energized. And in the end you feel like the toughest hombre in the world.
My race day strategy is to not eat anything out of the ordinary the night before, get a good night’s sleep and get up in plenty of time to eat a good breakfast with 2 hours to digest. The last two half marathons my husband has run he’s left his garmin at home (the first time on accident), and both times he’s had his best time ever. I haven’t been able to get that brave yet.
My favorite treat is Dots. You know, like the gumdrops? My kids know I love them, so they save them out of their Halloween candy stash for me. I don’t really much like candy or sweets otherwise at all (or I should say, they’re not a huge temptation), but I love having a secret stash of Dots in my car or at home in case I get a craving and can have one or two. Or a handful. Whatever it takes.
Best of luck tomorrow! You and Kev will do great!

You and your hubby reminds me of my brother and his GF because she is training for a marathon in Alaska so my brother is helping her train by going on all the runs with her! It’s so great to have such a wonderful support system, and you definitely are NOT short on support! 😉

Good luck with your race & HAVE FUN ! I will be sending positive vibes your way. On my first half marathon I started off nice and slow to get into it, an t allowed me to sprint the last mile and a half … it felt great to finish a race so strong. Hoping it doesn’t rain for you.

Cannot wait to hear how the race goes.
And don’t worry my omelets always look like yours, they may not be pretty, but they still taste the same.

How was the race!?
Your mother’s day looks amazing! I have to say that my husband kind of dropped the ball a bit this year. But at least I got to spend time with him and the little guy!
