Girls Camp and Chicken Fat!

August 10, 20122 Comments

Hey Y’all!  I just got back from Girls Camp for our church!  It’s a fun week long camp for all the girls ages 12-18.  I was able to go up as a leader to help out.  I only went up for a couple days, but it was a really good break for me.  I enjoyed being up in the mountains, spending time with awesome people, eating food I didn’t have to cook and getting my spiritual batteries recharged.

Awesome. 😉

Before I left, I decided to pack a little lunchbox full of healthy snacks because I didn’t quite know what we were going to eat.

Healthy-Lunchbox

Protein shakes, string cheese, Chobani yogurt, almonds, leftover rotisserie chicken (with a little salt shaker) and some homemade chocolate protein bars wrapped in wax paper (I’ll post the recipe later.)

I was really grateful to have my healthy little stash.  There were treats EVERYWHERE!  Holy COW!

It was tough.

Man.

I was strong for the most part, but I did have a Twinkie (yes, a Twinkie!) and a small bag of Cheetos.  I know….they are probably the two fakest foods on the planet.  But, it had been years since I’d had a Twinkie, so I thought I would indulge.  I’m sorry to say it was really tasty.  Dang it.

Anyway, my healthy little stash saved my bacon on more than one occasion.  Yay.  For example….this morning we had DOUGHNUTS for breakfast!  Not just your typical glazed doughnuts, but my favorite Dunford Donuts.  I love them so much, but I never eat them because they just make me want to have ten more!

Ya.

Here’s a pic (so you can feel my pain.),

Dunford-Donuts

Normally the breakfasts up at camp were really great and more substantial, but this morning we were just cleaning up and heading home.  So doughnuts were quick and easy.  I really wanted a doughnut (or five, lol!), but I resisted.  I opted for a protein shake, yogurt and a banana.  It was yummy and I was grateful I didn’t give in to the doughnut demons. 🙂

****************

Moving on….last night I was up late talking and laughing with some of the leaders at camp.  For some reason, I started singing the “Chicken Fat” song.  I LOVE that song, but none of the other leaders had heard of it!!  Whaaaaat???

I thought everyone knew that song.  My sisters and I used to listen to it over and over on our record player (ya, I’m old) and do all the exercises.  My kids and I love to do Chicken Fat too!  It was released in 1961, so it was before my time but it’s a lot of fun.  It’s actually a pretty good workout too.

So, for those of you (deprived) people who aren’t familiar with Chicken Fat, I thought I would share the love.  Here ya go…

I hope you all love it too!!!  Have a wonderful Friday!

It’s Premier brand and they are great. I buy them at Costco. I buy the chocolate flavor (of course), but they also sell vanilla and I think strawberry too. I still prefer to make my own shakes, but these are perfect for on the go! Love them.
