Good Food, Great Finds and a Bunch of Random Things!

May 1, 201412 Comments

Well I’m still goin’ strong on my healthy diet and I’m lovin’ it!  It’s definitely a reasonable lifestyle for me. 😉

I’ve been loading up on lots of real food like fruit, veggies, eggs, protein shakes, lean meats and whole grains (oats, quinoa and low carb tortillas mostly.)  HOWEVER, I’ve definitely been dipping into the chocolate chip bag a little too much.

But, I’ve decided I’m okay with that.

I know I need to be careful because the calories in chocolate chips add up quick, but I also know they’re helping to keep me on the wagon and not feel too deprived.  Plus, dark chocolate has health benefits.  Yay!

This was my breakfast this morning…

Protein pancakes and eggs with cheese

Two protein pancakes from the freezer (popped in the toaster) topped with natural PB, fruit and a drizzle of sugar free syrup + 1 egg and two egg whites scrambled and topped with cheese + a Batman cup full of water (I filled it 3 times.)  Yum!

I usually like to load my eggs up with veggies, but I wasn’t feelin’ it this morning….so I didn’t!  The cheese was a nice change too.

I had this for lunch today…

Healthy wrap

A La Tortilla Factory tortilla topped with a Laughing Cow cheese wedge, turkey, romaine, avocado, tomato and mustard.

This was so dang good, but so messy!  I always stuff my tortillas WAY too full, but I like them that way.  I like to cram as many veggies and good things in there as I can.

Case in point, I had this for breakfast yesterday…

Yummy Breakfast Burrito in low carb tortilla

A La Tortilla Factory tortilla filled with 1 egg, 2 egg whites (scrambled with onions, peppers and spinach), avocados (I went a little overboard!), tomato and a little S&P.

Super yummy, but super messy!  Ya, I couldn’t even close this tortilla.  I pretty much folded it in half and did my best to eat it without it falling out everywhere.  It was awesome though and totally filled me up!

I’ve also been having a lot of oatmeal for breakfast OR lunch!

Yummy peanut butter, banana chocolate chip oatmeal

I must say that peanut butter, chocolate chips and bananas make a fabulous combo!!!  I made my Chocolate Chip Cookie oatmeal one day and my Chocolate Peanut Butter one another day.

I’ve also been having a few protein shakes.

Strawberry Spinach Chia Seed Protein Shake

I loved this one.  I threw in 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk, 1 scoop chocolate protein, a bunch of frozen strawberries, 1/2 Tablespoon chia seeds, a small handful chocolate chips, 2 big handfuls spinach and a bunch of ice and called it good.

This shake was also HUGE!  I filled that jar 1 1/2 times and I was stuffed.  My two littlest kiddos helped me drink it though. 😉

This was also a random lunch I had the other day…

My salad and eggs for lunch

I pretty much opened the fridge and threw a whole bunch of random things together; spinach, romaine, peppers, apples, craisins, almonds and parmesan cheese topped with a little Newman’s Own Olive Oil and Vinegar dressing.  I also scrambled 1 egg + two egg whites and topped them with low sugar ketchup so I could get some protein in.

We’ve had pretty lame dinners this week.  Nothing to write home about.  I think we’ve had tacos, quesadillas (I had something else but I can’t remember what it was!) and leftovers.  Woo hoo.  I’m going to make french toast for the kiddos tonight, but I’ll probably make omelets for Kev and I.  Nothing fancy.

I’ve also bought a couple fun things lately that I thought I would share.

Handful Bra is having a sale right now on some of their bras.  Woo hoo!  Their original “Save the Ta-tas” bra is on sale for $25 + free shipping!  That’s a steal because their bras are usually $46-$48!

I bought me a white one…

New white Handful bra

Sadly, I just checked out their website and saw that they only have medium and large sizes left (in black or white) though.  Lame.  I should have told you guys sooner….sorry!

I really, really, REALLY love Handful bras!  I use them as a sports bra, but you could use them as a regular bra too.  They are super comfortable and flattering.  However, if you are well endowed in the chest area, you may not like them as a sports bra.  They aren’t extremely supportive.  IMO, they are just right for an A, B or a small C cup as a sports bra.

With that being said, I haven’t been wearing mine lately because I’m pregnant.  ‘Nuf said.  I will use mine ALL THE TIME when I shrink back down though.

I also bought some flip flops recently that are the BEST flip flops in the world!!

My Yellow Box Flip Flops

They are made by Yellow Box and I loooooooove them!!!  They are a little bit spendy ($30-$60), but I bought mine on Amazon cheaper.  I think the sparkly ones were around $30 and the orange ones were $17.  Not too bad!

I bought some Yellow Box flip flops a few years ago and I wore them constantly the past several summers.  They are extremely well made and sooo comfortable!  I completely wore them out!

I also gotta tell you guys that my cute 15 year old son earned his Life Scouting Rank the other night.  Yay!  And, when in THEE heck did he get so tall????  Geesh.

Ty getting his Life Scout

I look like a chub-a-bub, but that’s okay….it goes with the pregnancy territory!

I’m so proud of my son, but I have to say I am a very lame “scout mom!”  My son let me know that I sewed his last rank badge (the bigger yellow one on his shirt) on upside-down (ya, it says “Be Prepared” upside-down) and I sewed all of his merit badges on his sash on the wrong side (that’s why he’s not wearing his sash)!!!

Seriously???!

I have issues.  My poor boys.  It’s sad I will be the mother of FIVE boys and I’m so clueless about scouting.  I’m sure I’ll figure it all out someday.  Sigh.

I love scouting and the values and hard work it teaches my boys though.

I also have my 24 week pregnancy picture to share…

Me 24 weeks pregnant

I’m hovering right around the 19-20 pound total weight gain mark.  Yikes.  I’m really hoping to keep my total weight gain to 30 pounds.  We’ll see.  There are days I feel like a bloated giant blimp (see above Scout picture) and days I seem to deflate and feel normalish.  It’s so weird.

Oh, and one last thing….several of you have told me you haven’t been getting my emails lately (if you subscribe to my blog.)  I’m so sorry and I don’t know why they aren’t getting sent!  I sent an email over to WordPress and they told me that everything looks fine on their end and everyone should be getting my emails.

Weird.

Soooooo, I thought I would take a quick poll.  If you are a subscriber of my blog and don’t mind answering my poll, it would seriously help me.  Otherwise, I have no idea if y’all are getting my emails!

Soooo, here’s my little poll…

Thanks so much!

Oh, and don’t forget to enter my $50 Whole Foods gift card giveaway.  It ends on Sunday at midnight.  Well I gotta go feed my family.  Have a great night!

Congratulations to your son! That’s a big deal, he must be very proud. My son is 15 also, and I know what you mean about the height! One day they’re a little boy, then you do a double-take and they’re almost six feet tall. It makes you proud and a little sad at the same time, huh?

Thanks! Yes, raising kids is tough in so many ways. It’s so hard to watch them grow up so fast, but a lot of fun too.

That smoothie looks so good! I’ve never added chocolate chips in my smoothies before but it sounds like a great idea!

I really love chocolate chips in there! A little bit goes a long way and it makes the shake taste so indulgent!

Congrats to your son! It is so great when the kids are involved in Scouts. Your 24 week picture is adorable. So this is day 5 for me and I really am starting to enjoy healthy eating more and allowing myself a sweet a day (low cal) is really helping! I would like to get into making smoothies…gotta work on that one. Have a wonderful weekend..!
