I’ve been wanting to blog on here all weekend, but haven’t had a chance!
Yes, I’m a crazy lady!
I don’t allow myself to blog until my “to do” list has a significant dent in it and my house is at a certain level of clean. I’m just trying to keep the balance in my life, ya know?
Oh, priorities….sigh.
So, I’ve done my chores for the day….so now I get to blog. Yay!
Anyway, I’ve been a little bit of a rebel this weekend. It all started with a Friday night date night with my husband. We went to Red Robin to eat (one of our favs!) and I enjoyed the food a little too much!
We always get the same thing every time we go there….we share one of their yummy (seriously, sooo sooo yummy!) burgers and fries and then get a small side salad to share as well. I think it’s good (calorie-wise) that we share stuff, but it still packs a significant caloric punch!
I must say that their fries are the bomb though and I think they are worth every calorie and then some! I try not to eat fries unless they are really really good. I’m here to say that Red Robin’s fries are really really good! Probably my favorites!
Another perk about our typical Red Robin fare is that we both leave completely stuffed and it’s like $13-$14 bucks.
Awesome.
So…..I really really enjoyed our dinner.
I actually think it’s healthy for the psyche to eat “non-healthy” food sometimes….just sometimes though. I still try to maintain some level of control too. I don’t just eat and eat and eat until I’m bursting. I hate that! I just try to eat until I’m pleasantly full.
K, more rebellious things about this weekend…..I was kind of snacky on Saturday and ate quite a few crappy food items. I woke up in the morning and just didn’t feel like making ultra healthy food. I ended up with a bowl of Special K and called it good. Not too bad, but it would have been better with a side of egg whites! We also had lunch up the canyon with some of my family and I “enjoyed” some Cheetos (probably the fakest food out there!), and a few (or maybe ten) Keebler cookies.
I’m here to say that the Cheetos and cookies were not worth the calories. Yummy, but not worth it. Blah.
I really try to save my “crappy food indulgences” for things that I really really love!
Okay, there’s more….on Sunday we went up to my mom’s house to visit. I ended up eating a brownie or two!
Yes, I’ve been a little piglet.
Oh, and to top it off….I made the executive decision to not workout on Friday…or Saturday! What the heck???
In my defense, I was tired, crazy, stressed out and exercising seemed so daunting! So….I skipped it! Ha!
There…those are my confessions.
So, my little rebellious journey has been fun, but I’m so much happier when I’m eating healthy and exercising!
I think “falling off the wagon” a little here and there is completely natural. The important thing is to minimize the damage and “get back on the wagon” as quickly as possible.
I know on more than one occasion I’ve been guilty of “falling off the wagon” and then letting the wagon run over me! When I get to this point…it is very very hard for me to want to get back on. I feel like I just “undid” all of the good I’ve been doing and I don’t want to get back on only to fail once more.
Well, I’m here to say….get back on….and then get back on again…and then get back on again!
Never Give UP!
I often remind myself that “Everything Counts!” So….that small handful of chocolate chips….ya, it counts. Also, the quick 15 minute workout I fit in my busy schedule…it counts too! Every choice, good or bad, big or small, counts! So…..just make your bad choices fewer and far between and make your good choices more often!
There is my schpeal.
Now, I’ll tell you about my day today.
I started off with a 7 mile run. I was supposed to do it on Saturday, but didn’t. So…today was the day! It was a good run, although I left later and it was hotter than I wanted it to be! Imagine that!?!
I contemplated stopping at 5, then 6, then 6.5…but I kept going. I started to fizzle at mile 5, so I ate a few Gu Chomps. They are miraculous. They didn’t make me feel like Wonder Woman, but it did give me the energy I needed to keep going! I usually take the Gu Energy Gel, but I decided to try the Chomps and they were awesome. The gel’s texture usually makes me want to hurl, so the chomps were a good alternative.
FYI, there are all sorts of similar products out there on the market. If you plan on running (or any other vigorous form of exercise) for more than 45 minutes, you should try some. They are awesome!
So, my run felt pretty good. I didn’t run as fast as I would have liked (9:22/per mile average), but I knew I was going long and I was also pushing a double jogger.
Anyway, when I got home I enjoyed a very yummy protein shake. Here’s the recipe:
Strawberry Milkshake Protein Shake
- 1 cup Almond Milk (Skim Milk or water works too)
- 1 scoop Vanilla Protein Powder (I used Chocolate though)
- 3/4 cup Frozen Strawberries
- 1 Tablespoon Sugar-free vanilla pudding mix
- 1 Tablespoon Ground Flax Seed (optional)
- Spinach (optional)
- Ice
Just ignore the Stevia (Truvia), I didn’t even use it. It is plenty sweet enough without it!
Mix the Almond Milk, Protein Powder, Pudding Mix, Strawberries and Flax Seed in the blender.
Add the Spinach, and mix well
I use a spoon to push it down first.
Add the ice…mix up well and enjoy!
Yum! If you use vanilla protein powder and don’t add the spinach, it will look just like a Strawberry Milkshake!
Right now, I’m enjoying a yummy lite snack…
Cucumbers from our garden (sprinkled with salt and pepper) and a side of lite Cottage Cheese! Yummy!
Well, I’m off to try out a new class at the gym. My beloved Boot Camp class has been cancelled (so so so lame!), so I’m going to try the Muscle Works class at a different Golds Gym! I’ll let you know how it goes!

Ok, chomps make me ill, so I can only imagine what the gu would do. I’ve tried a few other things, like dried mangoes, and a fiber one bar. I don’t mind the eating as I run. But I honestly cannot run more than 4 or 5 miles without something.
And I HAVE to try the protein shake. The sugar free jello is a stroke of brilliance!

I know, Chomps and Gu are both a little eeee, but they help me so much! I should try some of those other ideas! I love the Strawberry Milkshake Protein Shake and I was so excited when I found recipes using sugar free pudding too! Yum!!
