I Made it Through Week #1!

October 16, 20122 Comments

Well, I officially made it through week #1 of my “healthy cleanse” diet.  Wahoo!  It’s been tough, but for the most part I just try to “get ‘er done” and not over think it.  I’ve pretty much been eating different variations of the same thing.

It is getting very old.

Here are some pics of my “creations”….

Scrambled-eggs-and-chicken
Scrambled eggs (1 whole egg + 4 egg whites) and chicken topped with low sugar ketchup and Walden Farms Ranch Dressing.

Egg-scramble-+-salad
How ’bout that???? More eggs!  Yes, 1 whole egg +4 egg whites scrambled with peppers, onions and spinach topped with low sugar ketchup and served with salad on the side (topped with Greek dressing.)

Potatoes-peppers-onions-and-eggs
This was so yummy!!  I cut up a Yukon Gold potato and fried it up in a little olive oil with some peppers and onions.  I cooked it for a bit and then added 4 egg whites and scrambled them in.  I topped it all with low sugar ketchup.  It was so good and I was SO full!

On Sunday, we had dinner at my parent’s house with some of my siblings and their families.  I brought a big ‘ol Greek salad.

Me-with-Greek-Salad
It included Spring Mix, Chopped romaine, tomatoes, yellow pepper, cucumber, olives and artichoke hearts.  I love Greek salad!

Dinner-at-moms

Here’s my plate from dinner at my parent’s house.  Yes, I totally had a hotdog….and yes, I’m totally okay with it. 😉  I also dipped my veggies in just a bit of ranch (I barely used any of it.)

Well, there ya go.  I know I just need to get through these next 5 1/2 days and then it will get a little easier.  Then I can add fruit!  Yay!

I gotta say, I’ve really loved this diet.  Here are my reasons why:

1. I am eating all REAL food.  I’m pretty happy about that.  When you’re just eating meat, eggs, veggies and nuts it’s really…..ummm, real.

2. My appetite has gone WAY down.  When I wake up in the morning, I’m not even hungry.  It’s weird.  I still get hungry throughout the day, but I’m just not as obsessed with food as I usually am.  😉

3.  I’m anticipating awesome results!  So far, I’ve lost about 4 pounds.  Yippee, skippy.  I’m pretty much at my “normal” weight right now.  But, usually when I get to my “comfy, normal” weight, I start to slack.  But, I’M NOT SLACKIN’!  Soooo, I hope to really lean up and lose a little bit more of my not-so-cute love handle.

4. I feel really disciplined.  I’m happy I can take charge of this aspect of my life and get the results I want.  I don’t like feeling like I’m a victim of my poor choices.  I hope that makes sense.

Well, that pretty much sums it up!

I must mention, my friend Diane is doing this with me.  She and I discussed a few things about this diet and we are making a few minor changes.  First off, this diet helps with three things; 1. weight loss, 2. sugar and processed food addictions and 3. identifying allergies.  I’m not as concerned about identifying allergies, except the dairy one.  I’ve always been curious to see if I felt any different by going off of dairy, so I’m going to stick with that one.

The changes we have made do not effect the weight loss or sugar/processed food addictions part of it at all.  Here they are:

1.  We are going to allow lean meat and pork.  I rarely eat it anyway, but we’re allowing sirloin steak, extra lean ground beef, pork sirloin and lean ham.  Everything I’ve read about these cuts of meat say they are healthier choices.  Like I said, I don’t eat them often anyway; I just want to expand my eating options a little.

2.  We’re going to allow peanut butter.  Of course, I will only use natural.  My doc said it’s technically a legume, so I’m supposed to wait until week 4 to introduce it, but I DO NOT HAVE A PEANUT ALLERGY!  So, I’m not gonna wait.

3.  My doc said to only make your own salad dressings and don’t use store bought dressings.  I’ve made my own dressings before, and they are good, but I’m not in the mood to bother with it right now.  SO, I’m only using high quality, “legal” ingredient store bought dressings.

4.  We are going to introduce dairy back in at week #4.  My doctor’s office recommends never eating dairy ever again.  We are not going to do that.  I have heard it takes 30 days of going off of dairy to find out if you have an allergy.  So, that is what we’re going to do.

I think that’s it.  Sounds like a plan!  Well I gotta go to bed, so G’night to you all!

xoxo
