I Survived Halloween….Barely!

November 1, 2012Leave a Comment

Well, it’s been a rough couple days!

My poor little 4 year old got the stomach flu Tuesday night and was up all….night….long!  Poor little guy and poor little me. 🙂

I ended up getting sick yesterday too.  Joy.  I just felt achy, nauseous and blah all day long.  Then, last night my 13 year old son got sick.  Consequently, the three of us all stayed home from Trick-or-Treating last night!  Gasp!  So sad, I know!  Sooooo sad. 🙁

Ya, I’m still trying to come to grips with it.  I am such a little kid when it comes to Halloween.  I look forward to it every year and I absolutely LOVE going Trick-or-Treating with my kids.  I love, love, love it!  I can’t believe I missed it!

Dang it, I’m so sad.

Do you know what makes it even worse???  The weather was absolutely perfect last night.  Seriously perfect.  Auuughh.

Ok, I’ll stop boo-hooing now.  Oh, and by the way my sweet little 2 year old is sick now.  The flu is the worst.  Yuck.

Anyway, here are some pics from our Halloween…

Daughter-as-Halloween-witch
My daughter was a hot pink glamour witch this year.  She actually borrowed the cape and hat from me!  She’s getting too old….I can’t believe she can wear my stuff!

Here’s a picture from 2005 with me as the pink witch…

Yes, my sweet little “Dorothy” daughter is giant now.  In fact, she went Trick-or-Treating without us (the horror!) for the first time this year!  Sigh.

The rest of us sick folk just laid in bed watching TV all night.  Yes, I feel bad for us.

On a brighter note, I lost 3 1/2 pounds!  Woo hoo!  Let’s hope it stays.

Moving on…..

I’m still goin’ strong with this little cleanse thing.  It’s really getting old, but I just try not to think about it.  I must confess, I’ve let myself have a few Halloween treats the past couple of days.

I thought about resisting, but then I thought, “It’s Halloween dang it, and I want to have some Halloween treats!”

So, I did.

I didn’t go crazy.  I’ve probably had a few mini candy bars and some Tootsie rolls and that’s it.  Oh, and I did snitch a couple bites of my son’s cupcake the other day too.

Not too bad.  I enjoyed myself and I don’t regret it.  AND, I’m not allowing myself to have any more!

Speaking of Halloween treats, here are a few tips to help minimize the Halloween damage…

  1. I DO NOT buy any Halloween candy until October 29th or 30th!  If I buy it any sooner than that, it ends up calling my name and I end up eating it!
  2. I only buy candy that doesn’t tempt me!  I am a sucker for anything chocolate….so I don’t buy it!  I buy all the chewy, gummy stuff.  I can resist it all day long.
  3. After Halloween, I keep the kids stashes far away from me!  Out of sight, out of mind!
  4. I let my kids enjoy their Halloween candy for 2-3 days and then I offer them cash incentives if they let me throw it away.  Usually, they are happy to earn some easy money….and I’m happy to get rid of the candy!
  5. If I’m going to a Halloween party or anywhere with loads of sugary goodness around, I eat before I go!  If I’m not hungry, I can easily resist.  BUT, if I AM hungry…watch out!

Well, that’s all I can think of for now!

I’m sure you all had a better Halloween than me!  I can’t believe Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner.  Crazy!

I hope you all have a wonderful night! xoxo
