Well guys, I just started a “healthy cleanse” yesterday and I think it’s awesome!
First off, I must say I hate the word “cleanse.” When I hear that word, I immediately think of all sorts of wacko and unhealthy diets. I assure you, the healthy cleanse I am doing is just that….”a healthy cleanse.” Yay.
Before I tell you all about it, I have to tell you a story about how I decided to do this little cleanse. Here goes….
I have always had a poor immune system and seem to get sick really easily. If I’m not sick, I feel run down quite often. It is very frustrating to me because I am a busy body and like to accomplish a lot! Being sick or run down kind of thwarts my plans, ya know?
Sooooo, I was talking to a friend of mine several months ago and she told me she used to feel the same way as me and her doc tested her and found she had a hormonal imbalance. Her doc was really able to help her out. Soooo, I decided to schedule my annual (overdue) OB/GYN appointment to see if my doc could offer any help to ME! Quick, side note: My doc was booked out for 2-3 months, so I scheduled my appointment with a Physician’s Assistant that I had never visited before.
I have to say….I was not impressed….at ALL! Man. I briefly told her my sob story and told her about my friend with the hormonal imbalance. She didn’t give it a second thought and just said, “You DO NOT have a hormonal imbalance.”
Okay…???
Then she asked me if I exercised. I told her “Yes!” She sounded skeptical and asked me what kind of exercise I did and how often (as if she didn’t believe me.) She then asked if I ate a healthy diet. I said, “Yes!” I told her I have sugar and junk occasionally, but for the most part I follow a very healthy diet. Once again, she acted a little skeptical.
When I told her about how I get run down easily, she said, “Quite frankly, you and the rest of the world!”
I kind of couldn’t believe she said that! She went on to say, “I obviously deal with a lot of women and the number one complaint I hear is that they are tired.” She also said, “We’ve found that some people just get sick more often than others.”
THAT IS IT! Wow.
I was surprised and bothered by what she said and HOW she said it. She acted very “bratty” (for lack of a better word), and offered me NO compassion or sympathy whatsoever! I left there feeling discouraged and just thought, “Well, I guess this is my lot in life….I might as well make the best of it!”
****************
Well, about a week later I got Pink Eye. Joy. It went away, but my eye still felt irritated for quite a while. I decided I should probably go see a doc. I usually just go to Instacare (aka Urgent Care), but we changed insurance and Instacare is no longer covered, unless it’s an emergency.
Sooooo, I thought it would be a good time to visit my friend’s doc to get my eye checked out and get a second opinion about my lame immune system.
I am SO GLAD I did!!!
I went to visit Brittney Francis (Nurse Practitioner) at Pioneer Comprehensive Medical. What a wonderful place! They are regular doctors, but a little more “holistic.” She listened to my sob story and seemed to really care. She told me there were a lot of things they could do to help me! She immediately told me to go on several (high doses) of vitamins and supplements. She also told me about the “healthy cleanse” that they recommend. She said she personally does it every year. It immediately peaked my interest.
Soooo, that was about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have definitely noticed a huge difference from the vitamins and supplements. I have had a ton more energy and just feel better than I have in a long time! YAY!
Here’s a list of the vitamins/supplements I’m on, in case anyone out there is interested:
Fish Oil (two 1,000 mg capsules twice a day)
Probiotics
Vitamin C (1,000 mg a day)
Vitamin D3 (5,000 IU a day)
IGG.
She told me that if I start to feel a cold coming on, I should take about 15,000 mg of vitamin C a day (about 1 pill every hour) and 2-3 Vitamin D3 pills a day. Cool.
It was very tasty. I couldn’t use my regular turkey burger recipe (it has two kinds of cheese in it), so I just found a recipe on All Recipes that was pretty much just ground turkey, spices and an egg. It was pretty good.Well, those are all the pictures I’ve taken the past couple of days. I will try to blog a little more often to let you know how this little cleanse is going.I’m a little scared….but excited too! Have a good night!

Good luck on your cleanse!! I’ve been to Pioneer Comprehensive Medical too. I’ve done their cleanse twice. Probably about time to do it again. But it is HARD!!! Luckily Kevin is willing to do it with you. That will help! Hang in there!
Wow. I couldn’t have gold potatoes. They must have updated it! Lucky! I still have a hard time eating eggs and chicken now. 😉

Thanks Stacey! That’s so cool that you’ve been to Pioneer as well! I really like them. This diet is freaking hard, but the potatoes are a lifesaver! I’m only 3 days in and I’m already so sick of chicken and eggs. Bleh.

Thank you for sharing your list of supplements! I constantly feel run down and tired also! I eat healthy, work out regularly, but still never feel 100%! I already eat a diet very similar to the cleanse (Paleo diet) but with fruit so that is covered. Keep us updated on your progress!!

I’m so sorry you feel run down too! That is so frustrating! So far I’ve been amazed by how well I’ve felt on the supplements. My husband and oldest son have had the worst cold ever, but i’ve just had a little tiny cold. I’m amazed, because I’m always the one who gets sick! I will definitely keep you all posted!
