My New Favorite Breakfast

July 21, 20126 Comments

Well we are in the middle of a crazy week/weekend!

I know it’s hard to believe. 😉

With that being said, I only have a few minutes.  I thought I would hop on here quickly and post my current favorite breakfast.  I really love it!

I’ve told you before that when I find a breakfast I like, I usually stick with it for quite a while.  I’ll have it most days for a month or so and then I’ll switch it up.

When I find a breakfast that’s healthy, simple and yummy it really simplifies my life to just have it over and over again.

So, here’s my current fav.  It’s a very simple recipe, in fact you may already have your own version of it….but here’s mine. 😉

Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal

  • 1/3 C. Old Fashioned Oatmeal
  • Water
  • 1/2 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder
  • 1 T. Ground Flax Seed
  • 1 T. Cocoa
  • 1 T. Natural Peanut Butter
I bought my cocoa in bulk at Winco, my oatmeal at Costco (I just store it in this container), my peanut butter and protein at Costco and my flax at Walmart!

Place oatmeal in microwave safe bowl.
Cover oatmeal completely with water (don’t be shy!)
Cook for 2 minutes in the microwave.

Note:  I usually place a small plate under the bowl in case it boils over.

When it comes out of the microwave, add protein, cocoa, flax and peanut butter.

Mix well.
If it’s not quite sweet enough, you can add a little sweetener, honey, agave, whatever!  I think it’s plenty sweet enough for me without adding anything extra.  I sometimes add a little sliced banana on top though and it’s yummy!

This is so good!  It reminds me of a no-bake cookie!

Heck, if I can eat something warm and chocolatey for breakfast that sorta, kinda resembles a no-bake cookie that also happens to be good for me….that’s a WIN in my book!

Enjoy!

I have the same thing for breakfast and lunch almost every day, too! It does simplify things – and you don’t even have to THINK about it. I’m sooo used to having my whey protein smoothie after exercise, it REALLY threw me today… when I couldn’t. (We went from gym..on to celebrate Aaron’s birthday) — I really felt off. It was the first thing I made/had when we got home. I felt much better. I missed it! I also under estimated how much cold water we drink, too. I was so thirsty!

Melanie, have you run a half marathon?? If so… How did you like it? Was it too far? There’s one in Malibu that supports Animals in November… my sister is running – trying to convince me, but I-don’t-know. Seems like a long ways to run!

So sorry to be so slow to respond to this Jeanne! I have done one half marathon and I loved it so much! It was tough and the training was definitely time consuming…but it was awesome! You should do it! I think it would be fun to run it with your sister and you would have plenty of time to be ready by November! Good luck! Keep me posted. 🙂

P.S. I like Jay Robb’s powdered egg white protein -chocolate. Add it to whey protein smoothie. I like Terra’s Whey, organic. I’m sensitive to the taste of artificial sweeteners. Both of the above use Stevia – so it doesn’t bother me.

Those both sound awesome! Right now I’m using Elite Gourmet vanilla whey protein. It’s also sweetened with Stevia and I really like it!

I will have to try Elite! Thank you for the tip! Have you tried their chocolate?

I haven’t tried the chocolate yet because I still have a ton left of a different brand. They have a lot of flavors to choose from and I’ve heard good things. I just bought mine online. I don’t think the Elite is quite as sweet as my Protein Powder sweetened with sucralose, but it’s still good. I’m happy it’s all natural too!
