Our Fun Trip to Park City, the Stein Eriksen Lodge and The Chateaux

December 11, 201320 Comments

Good evening friends!

I hope you’re all enjoying the holiday season.  I’ve been running around like a crazy lady trying to get all my shopping done.  It’s been fun…sort of!

Well, I realized I never told you guys about the fun overnight getaway Kev and I went on a couple weeks ago.  It was SUCH a fun adventure!

First off, he completely surprised me with everything which I thought was so sweet.  When I came home from picking up the kids from school, my daughter handed me a note.  It pretty much said I was getting “kidnapped” in just over an hour and needed to pack on overnight bag and get ready to go!

The whole “just over an hour” thing really stressed me out because I am not a “fly by the seat of my pants” kind of gal!  I had to pack, shower, blow dry the hair….the whole shabang.

But, I got ‘er done.

Anyway, when Kev came home to pick me up I realized there were nine other couples who were going with us!  So fun!

We first went to Laser Quest to play Laser Tag!  I loved it so much and felt like a kid again.  I am not super coordinated with a “gun,” but I had a lot of “shooting” or “trying to shoot” my friends.  We had a ball.  I can’t wait to go again!

After Laser Tag, we all drove up to Park City.  Park City is a beautiful, fun, touristy town nestled in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains.  It’s about 30 miles east of Salt Lake City.

Park CityPark City Main Street

It’s famous for it’s world-class ski resorts, beautiful scenery, golfing, unique shopping and dining. It’s also home to the Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States.

It’s just a very fun, magical place to visit.

We all headed up to Deer Valley Resort to the Stein Eriksen Lodge to have dinner at Giltretind, the onsite fine dining establishment there.  It was fabulous and very “fancy schmancy!”

It was such a beautiful, romantic drive too.  We drove high into the snowy mountains and all the Christmas lights were glowing.  It was absolutely perfect.

Stein Eriksen Lodge
Oh, and the Stein Eriksen Lodge is unbelievable!  We didn’t stay there because rooms run upwards of $700 a night!  I saw this plaque hanging on the wall and I have to say, I wasn’t surprised.

Stein Eriksen plaque

It was a pretty amazing place.

Here we are at Giltretind with some of my favorite peeps….

Cute friends at Stein EriksenKev and I at Stein Erickson

And here are some more of my favorite peeps too…

Friends at Stein Eriksen

All of these wonderful people live in my neighborhood and go to church with us.  I love them all so so much and am so thankful for wonderful friends. 😉

Oh, and I have to say I was so DANG impressed with all of these men.  They planned this fun getaway all by themselves and completely surprised all of us ladies.  And to top it off, they found and used a Groupon type deal too!  I was so impressed.  They got a steal of a deal.  What kind, thoughtful, romantic, bargain-y men!

Anyway, the food at Giltretind was out of sight!  Not only was it delicious, it was beautiful too!  Check out the bread basket on our table…

All of these breads were fabulous!  I especially loved the crusty sourdough bread.  Yum, yum.

I ordered the Farmer Jones Baby Romaine Salad to start.  It included “Utah honey vinegar strawberries, smoked almonds and white balsamic vinaigrette.”  It was very simple, yet so tasty.

My salad from Stein Eriksen

While we were waiting for our dinner, the waiter brought us all a “Fig with Radish” to taste.

I guess it also had “grass” on it as well. 🙂 It was such a random and strange combination, but it was quite good!

Kev and I both ordered the Double R Ranch Beef Tenderloin for our main dish and it was fabulous.  It also came with “potato gratin, rogue creamery smoked blue cheese and romanesco.”

My steak from Stein Eriksen

We all decided to get dessert too.  We don’t do “fancy schmancy” too often, so we decided to make the most of it!  Kev ordered Rhubarb Upside-down Cake, which included “vanilla poached rhubarb, summer berry sauce and rhubarb sorbet candied fennel flowers.”

It looked quite amazing…

Kev's Rubarb dessert

I ordered the Baked Alaska, “lemon pound cake, lemon sorbet, vanilla gelato and blueberry compote” and it was fabulous.

My Baked Alaska dessert

I love lemony things and this was so so so good.  The combination of flavors was superb.

Oh, and I have to show you the chocolates my friend ordered.  They were stunning…

They were seriously too beautiful to eat.  This picture doesn’t even do them justice.

Afterward, we headed to our hotel.  We stayed at “The Chateaux,” which is a beautiful hotel next to the Stein Eriksen Lodge.

The Chateaux resort

The Chateaux is a very nice and usually expensive hotel too ($400-$500 a night), but our bargain shopper husbands got the rooms for around $100.  How awesome is that?

It was such a surreal getaway and I enjoyed every second.

The next morning, we met part of our group for breakfast.  We decided to go to McDonalds of all places!  It was mostly because we were short on time (and probably money, lol.)

Anyway, I ordered the Egg White Delight McMuffin, which wasn’t too shabby.  It’s only 250 calories.  I ordered it with a side of hash browns (150 calories) and a Diet Coke.

My McDonalds Breakfast

Yes, it’s not the breakfast of champions, but it was quite good.

After that, we made it home just in time to pack to head out of town to Oregon to visit Kev’s family for Thanksgiving.

Busy, but so fun!

Well, that’s our trip in a nutshell.  😉  It was so nice to get away with Kev for a bit and spend time with him and some of my favorite friends.  I loved it so much!

If you’re ever in Utah (or if you already live in Utah!), I would highly recommend a trip like this one.  Make sure you get a good deal though!

I hope you all have a great night.

Considering that I used to be a professional/competitive snowboarder, it’s weird that I’ve never been to Park City, UT! Thank you for giving me a glimpse of what I have been missing!!!

You should make a trip here! That’s so cool you were a professional snowboarder. Wow. I wish I was a better skier/snowboarder. 🙁 My coordination is lacking.

That resort looks beautiful. There is a Chateau in Quebec I would love to visit, but it is pricey. Maybe I should check out Groupon. I love how your daughter was in on the surprise. Very cute.

I’ve seen some great deals on Groupon and other sites like it! I thought it was sweet that the kids were in on it too. I can’t believe I was completely surprised.

Wow, girl I’m soooo jealous! Not only is your hubby amazing and sweet, but all the hubbies pulling that off ?!?! And that good of a price is so impressive!! It looks so beautiful and romantic! My hubby is amazing and always doing fun things like that, but now that we have our 2 year old daughter, it’s not so easy. Which is ok… We waited many years for her so we always want her with us now, lol!
That chocolate plate looked amazing too!
