Productivity and EXERCISE!

September 30, 201432 Comments

Well life has been good lately!

I’m starting to feel like my crazy “newborn baby life” is starting to settle down into a more predictable schedule.  Yay!  Carson is such a sweet, good-natured baby.  He sleeps quite a bit during the day and is a pretty good sleeper at night too (he usually does a 5-5 1/2 hour stretch.)  He’s also generally happy and only cries when he’s tired, hungry, needs to burp or needs a new diaper (not all of my babies have been like that, lol!)

He is such a doll and I’ve been soaking up every second of his sweetness.

Sweet Baby Carson 1 month

I love, love, love him and wish I could hold and snuggle him all day long!

**********************

I’m happy to say that I have a little more energy and don’t feel like a walking zombie anymore too!  It’s been so nice to be a little more productive.  Yesterday, I made applesauce with my 4 year old.  It was really easy and actually sort of fun!

Making applesauce with Jacob

Canned applesauce

I’ll post the “recipe” and procedure on here soon.

While the applesauce was processing, we played the game, Flash Point…

Flash Point game

I’m not a big fan of this game, but my kids LOVE it!  It’s a “firefighter” game and you try to save all the people before the building collapses.  I have to admit, I change the rules quite a bit when I play with my little ones though.  I make it a lot simpler…we basically always save ALL the guys and the cat and the dog!

Jake and I playing Flash Point

Oh, and sweet little Carson slept through the entire applesauce/game playing adventure!

Carson sleeping while we made applesauce

I’ve still been trying to eat well and for the most part, I’ve done pretty well.  However, I struggled this past weekend!  Gah!  Weekends are tough.

I haven’t been taking a ton of food pics lately because I’ve pretty much been eating the same type of things.

Egg/veggie scrambles with fruit for breakfast…

Eggs, grapes and zucchini bread for breakfast

I also had a slice of homemade zucchini bread this morning too.  I created a “healthier zucchini bread” recipe over the weekend and it turned out awesome!  I’ll share the recipe soon!

I’ve been having big ol’ salads for lunch….

Big ol salad and grapes for lunch

And this is what we had for dinner last night…

Chicken, veggies and corn

It was just grilled chicken, roasted veggies and corn on the cob.  YUM!

I’ve been eating other snacks throughout the day including a few chocolate chips for good measure, lol.

*******************************

I’m SO HAPPY to say that I EXERCISED…..for reals today and yesterday!!!!

Woo hoo!

Yes, I ran on the treadmill last night and it was…….humbling.

My first run after baby

Woah.  It felt so so great to run again, but it was so DANG hard!  I am so out of shape and it’s depressing.  I wore one of the cute outfits Fabletics sent to me, but I was definitely poured into it!  It was so nice to be in exercise clothing again though.

I decided to run 2 miles at a 12:00 pace.  Yikes.  My “normal” running pace used to be around 8:00-8:30 and 12:00 used to feel almost like walking to me.

I’m sorry to say that the 12:00 pace was freaking hard and kicked my can!  It actually felt like a sprint, lol!  I also had to walk a little bit too.  Crazy.

I’m about 20 pounds heavier than I normally am and I felt EVERY single one of those pounds!  Man.  How much I weigh definitely affects my running!  My body just felt SO HEAVY and sluggish.  I could feel the extra weight in my shins, knees and joints too.  I’m definitely going to ease back into exercising/running so I don’t injure myself.

I have to say losing weight and getting back into shape is so tough!  The scale HAS NOT moved for me in over 2 weeks and it’s so frustrating!  It’s so hard to feel so out of shape too.  Exercise is SO MUCH more fun and so much easier when I’m in shape!  It’s so rewarding to push my body to the max and feel so capable and strong.

I miss it. 🙁

BUT, I will get back there again!  I’m just going to take it one day at a time.

I decided to do a little weight lifting today.  I created a bicep/triceps workout and incorporated a fun plyometric workout that I saw in Oxygen Magazine (February 2014) too.

My cute son exercised with me too!  He really enjoyed the plyos.

Jake exercising with me

lifting weights with jake

Oh, and Carson got his own little workout in by kicking his legs on the bed alongside us, lol!

Carson kicking on the bed while I exercise

Here’s the workout I did (it took me about half an hour)….

Complete 3 rounds of each set (10 reps of each exercise.)

Bicep Curls
Hammer Curls
One-Legged Forward Hops (10 on each leg.)

Triceps Overhead Extension
Triceps Kickbacks
Tuck Jumps

External Rotations
Cross Body Hammer Curls
Burpees

Skull Crushers
Triceps Extensions laying down
X-Jumps

Side Punches
Triceps Push-Backs
Ski Hops

I really enjoyed this workout.  I used 10# dumbbells and they felt SO HEAVY!  I used to do these exercises with 12-15# dumbbells, so it was weird to have 10 pounds feel so heavy.  It was…..humbling.  The burpees also just about killed me.  I wussed out on a few of them.  It is seriously crazy how much my level of fitness has deteriorated.

I’ve heard that the body can get back into shape quicker if it’s been there before though.  I SURE HOPE SO!

It’s really tough to have faith that I WILL get back to my pre-pregnancy body when exercise is SO hard and the scale doesn’t budge even when I’m eating well, but I am a very stubborn person and I WILL get there again!

I figure when you’re out of shape and overweight, you have TWO choices……1) You can get frustrated, feel overwhelmed, give up and consequently stay at that weight and level of fitness OR 2) Work your freaking butt off and stay committed until your ideal weight/body is achieved….no matter how long it takes!

I’m definitely going to do the latter.

Well, that’s the latest on my post-baby, out of shape life, lol!  I did take my 6 weeks postpartum picture on Sunday….

Me 6 Weeks Postpartum

That skirt used to be VERY baggy on me.  In fact, it got to be so big on me that I stopped wearing it because it wouldn’t stay on!  It is very snug on me now, but I was grateful to have something in my closet that FIT!

Now that I’m exercising I’ll try to take my weekly pictures in exercise clothes.  It won’t be pretty, but I really want to demonstrate and share my weight loss journey with all of you!

Well, I’m wicked tired and need to head to bed.  I hope you all have a great night.  xoxo

WHoa! That is a pretty intense process for applesauce….I usually just throw apples in a crockpot and leave them there all day! I bet yours is lovely and smooth though! Glad things are coming back together for you, I can only imagine how hard it is not to exercise when you are so used to it! I am gonna struggle when I can’t run when I eventually have kids! 80 miles a week to the recommended 3 a day…..gonna be tough!

I’ve heard about crockpot versions of applesauce too and it DOES sound easy. My process is pretty simple too. The machine we use looks complicated, but it really makes things a breeze! I’m so inspired by what an amazing runner you are! I can’t wait until running is enjoyable for me again!

Ugh….I just typed out the longest, most heartfelt comment and my stupid computer froze and I lost it all!! I don’t have the time to type it all out again….but basically I said you look great and to not beat yourself up! It was so hard after my daughter was born too and I couldn’t even do one situp or pushup but now I’m totally back to normal again!! I never thought it was possible because I had a zillion rolls, but with time and a major change in diet made it happen!

Oh no, I’m so sorry Brandi! I hate it when the computer conks out, especially after typing such a long, thought-out thing! Thanks so much for your example to me and support of me. I so appreciate it! I love what you said about “a zillion rolls!” I hear ya!!!!

I have struggled for about 9 months…trying to be healthy and just not losing weight. But, I am determined to get back to my comfortable weight no matter what. Anyway, you are doing great…you are such a talented, multi-tasking Momma!

Awww, thanks so much! Losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle is so so tough, but I’ve learned time after time to just keep doing what I know is best for my body and it eventually works out. I’m having a rough time being patient though!

You are looking so good! I have been feeling every ounce of extra weight lately from the baby. I feel like I’m so out of shape. It stinks! I know it is temporary and I’ll get back into it after the baby is here, but, like you point out, it’s a process!

    Baby Carson is so cute!

If I go just a couple weeks without running I can tell!! So it’s completely normal for you to be where you are. You are still able to run a consistent 2 miles and not many people can do that!! You will get back to where you were with some time!

I hate the treadmill with the fiery passion of 100 burning suns. That said, when it gets colder, it’ll be that or sit around and watch my butt spread.

Also, your baby is flippin’ adorable. Which I’m guessing you’ve noticed. You know, maybe.
