I love pulled pork, but it usually involves barbeque sauce full of high fructose syrup and a whole bunch of other obscure ingredients.
My recipe is easy, simple and made from real ingredients that you can pronounce. It also tastes incredible. What’s not to love?
Easy & Healthy Pulled Pork
- 1/2 large onion; thinly sliced
- 2 garlic cloves; minced
- 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
- Seasoned salt, to taste
- 1 (~4 pound) Boneless Pork Roast
- 1 (18 oz) bottle Stubb’s BBQ Sauce
- 3-4 Tablespoons brown sugar
Place onions and garlic in the bottom of Crock-Pot. Add chicken broth. Place pork roast in Crock-Pot and sprinkle liberally with seasoned salt. Cover and cook until tender; 6-8 hours on high or 8-10 hours on low.
Remove roast from Crock-Pot and discard liquid (you can strain the liquid and keep the onions/garlic to add back to the pork if preferred.)
Using two forks, shred the pork (discard any fat), and return it back to the Crock-Pot.
Add BBQ sauce and sugar and mix until well combined.
**Note: I love Stubb’s BBQ sauce because it’s made with real ingredients and only has 4 grams of sugar per serving, which is very low for BBQ sauce! I buy my Stubb’s at Wal-Mart, but you can also purchase it online from their website. If you decide to use a different BBQ sauce (one with more sugar), you can probably omit the brown sugar.
Serve immediately or keep warm in the Crock-Pot until ready to serve.
Serve as-is, in buns or as part of your favorite recipe.
Enjoy!
