The kids were out of school part of last week and yesterday for Spring Break. We had a lot of fun and it was nice to have them home, BUT I’m happy to get back to a regular schedule once again.
Because of spring break, I have been a TERRIBLE sleeper! Kev was also off work last week, so we all stayed up a lot later than usual. I tried to sleep in a little in the morning, but it’s so hard for me to get good quality sleep in the the morning.
So, I’ve kind of been draggin’ all week.
SO, last night I decided I was going to get back on track and get an AWESOME night of sleep. I wanted to be super productive today and get my groove back.
I’m sorry to say…I had a horrendous night sleep! It was almost comical….. almost.
Kev and I climbed into bed around 9:30, but we watched TV and chilled for a little bit. We turned the light off just before 11:00. Not too bad.
But, it just went downhill from there. My oldest has been sick with a bad cold, so I kept waking up as I heard him hacking or blowing his nose.
Yes, I’m a light sleeper.
Then, the dog wanted to go outside in the middle of the night. Lovely.
Then, around 3:00, my 5 year old came in and said he had wet the bed. Awesome.
After that, I COULD NOT go back to sleep! Auughh. I laid in bed for about an hour and a half tossing and turning AND stressing that I wasn’t asleep!
So, I have been seriously dragging all day. It’s another reminder to me how vital sleep is. Without it, all of my healthy endeavors just fall by the wayside.
I can usually resist sugar and crappy food for the most part AND I usually look forward to my workouts. But, here’s how I’ve felt today….
- Easter Candy??? Sure.
- Junk Food??? Why not?
- Pizza? Bring it on.
- Workout? How in the world am I going to do that!?
Yes, it’s a little depressing. I’m going to force myself to go to the gym in just a little bit though.
I’m also going to try again tonight to get an AWESOME night sleep.
It better happen.
Oh, and here’s a great article I found on WebMD about the dangers of sleep deprivation and how it can affect your life. It was kind of a “wake up” call to me (pardon the pun.)
Sorry to be such a downer. 🙁
On a brighter note, we had a fun Easter weekend!
On Saturday morning, we took the kids to our city Easter Egg hunt. It is so well done. It’s at our city park and they divide different sections of the park into age groups. They basically just scatter wrapped candy, prizes, toys and filled Easter eggs all over the grass and let all the kids scoop up as much as they can.
All the kids get a ton of stuff. They love it. This was my 12 year old daughter’s last year to do it. Sigh.
On Saturday night, I went to our church’s annual General Young Women Meeting in Salt Lake City. It’s basically a meeting for all young women ages 12-18 and their moms and leaders. We listen to our church leaders give encouraging and comforting talks to the young women. It was great and it was so fun to be there with my sweet daughter….who happens to be OLD now.
I also went with my mom, sister and niece as well.
We went to Olive Garden for dinner afterward and I was happy to see they had a new “Lighter Fare” section on the menu (everything’s under 575 calories.) I got the BEST Lasagna Primavera with Grilled Chicken. Here’s a description from their website;
Hand-folded lasagna filled with zucchini, squash and bell peppers, topped with a tomato-basil sauce, grilled chicken and a creamy parmesan drizzle.
And here’s a pic. I totally forgot to take my own picture of it, so this pic is from Olive Garden’s website;
I just about licked my plate clean! I, of course, enjoyed some yummy Olive Garden salad and part of a breadstick as well. 😉
On Sunday, we did the typical Easter Basket stuff with the kids and then went to church. Later on, we went up to my parent’s house.
My sweet baby is turning 3 tomorrow, so we sang Happy Birthday to him up at my parent’s house.
My sister-in-law had a birthday last week too, so we sang to her too. There is always a birthday going on in my family!
I have one more funny picture of my sweet dog, Jimmer to share…
He is hilarious and sleeps like this a lot. Sometimes he burrows under my covers and I just see his two little hind feet sticking out of the top of the covers. Too funny!
Well, that is all for now! I’m hoping to get AWESOME sleep this week so I can get a lot of things done….including blogging. I have so many fun things to share with you guys.
I hope you are all happy and not sleep deprived! Love you all. xoxo

I have days where I think those exact same thoughts. Today I couldn’t stop eating the candy! I did manage to get a short run in though so I was glad about that…which made me feel better about all the candy 🙂

I know what you mean about getting back to a normal schedule! While it’s great to have the time with our kids on Spring break, things always get out of whack, especially sleep! I know because I’m typing this comment at 11:51 PM!!!!!!! Looks like you had a fun Easter weekend!!! 🙂 Great pics of you and your family….and your doggy!!! 🙂

Cute family! Don’t you just love Olive Garden! I could eat their salad and breadsticks everyday.

Melanie,
I completely agree about getting back into the healthy “grove”. I also have been welcoming easter candy (jelly beans!? really Jeanie), leftover easter food, and skimping on my workouts. I made an appointment with myself for a 5pm gym workout. I also skipped a favorite TV show for motivation while running. I hope it works!
Don’t worry, we are in the same boat (minus sleep depravation)

I’m so glad we’re in the same boat, lol. 😉 It’s nice to know someone out there feels the same way! My healthy efforts always seem to go in ebbs and flows. I guess that’s because it’s a lifestyle and not just a fad diet, huh? I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Oh, Melanie. I sure hope that you’re sleeping better these days. I know how it feels. I had insomnia for about 5 months. I got in maybe 6 hours/ week when it was really bad…I’m mortified thinking about it! I was NOT a pleasant person to be around, that’s for sure. Your children are so precious! I can’t wait to be a mother..I hope that God will bless us with a child soon. I haven’t been to Olive Garden in so long, but I remember their breadsticks being deadly. So good…

Thanks so much Min! You are so sweet. I can’t imagine having insomnia for 5 months and running on 6 hours/week. That is terrible. I hope you’re sleeping better now. I have been sleeping pretty well this week and I feel pretty good. It’s amazing how much sleep affects my day to day life! I sure hope you can have a child soon as well. You will be a wonderful mother, I’m sure. 😉 I hope you have a great day.
