Well friends, I’m still “in” my Oxygen Challenge and I really love it. I can’t say I’m “goin’ strong,” but I’m not struggling either. I’m kind of in a “slow, but steady” pattern and I think (i.e. hope) it’s a good thing.
I’ve just been more aware of my healthy habits. I’ve been paying more attention to what I’m putting in my body, I’ve been trying to get adequate sleep (it seems like I’m either terrible or awesome at this) and I’ve been fitting in most of my workouts.
I took that pic on the left over the weekend. It’s a low quality, blurry picture because I was trying to take a stealthy selfie. I was trying to take the pic without those two teenage boys behind me noticing. Ha ha.
That day, I ran 1.8 miles to my gym, got in a quick lower body Superset workout and then ran home. It was a fun workout, I loved running outside and I loved that I changed it up, but it kicked my can!
It was a very effective lower body workout though!! Ha ha. I could hardly move the next day! This is what I did at the gym:
- Bulgarian Split Squats x10 each side
- Barbell step-ups x10 each side
- X3
- Barbell squats x16
- Good Mornings x16
- X3
- Kettlebell Sumo Squats x16
- Deadlifts x16
- X3
Short and sweet, yet very effective. My kind of workout!

I also gotta tell you guys something I started doing last week that is exciting/freaky for me! I started teaching some group fitness classes! Eeeee. I’m just doing them at my church with ladies in my neighborhood, but this is a big deal for me!
Folks, I’ve wanted to teach exercise classes for a very long time. When Kev and I first got married (almost 23 years ago!), I wanted to teach, but I was too chicken. It intimidated me, so I just didn’t do it. THEN, I started having babies and it was just too chaotic.
Well, interestingly enough, the past few months I’ve just felt like I should do it! It’s been kind of funny because I had a few friends in my neighborhood ask if I’d ever consider teaching at our church. THEN, I was talking with my sister-in-law from Idaho and she was telling me how a lady in her neighborhood teaches classes at their church and she loves going! AND THEN randomly enough, my favorite fitness instructor at the gym pulled me aside after class one day and told me I should teach classes!?
It was almost comical to me how all of these things happened within a few months of each other.
It’s also interesting because for the first time in a very, very long time I finally feel like I actually have the capacity to even do it! It’s really felt like the planets have aligned and it’s TIME for me to do it!
Soooo, I did some deep thinking and therapy on myself. Ha ha. I knew this was something I really wanted to do, but I was just chicken. I didn’t want to NOT do it JUST BECAUSE IT SCARED ME, so I mustered up my courage, tried not to feel intimidated and I organized the classes! Woot!
I’m super proud of myself because I know how long I’ve wanted to do this and how freaky it’s felt to me! I’m sure many of you out there are thinkin’, “What the heck chick!??” “This is so not a big deal!”
I know, I know. It’s really not!
I don’t know why it’s been so intimidating to me!!?? I know my stuff, I love people and I’m not a very shy person, but I think I just tend to overthink things and make them more scary than they really are.
Soooo, I started teaching last week, Monday and Wednesday mornings. So far, about 10-12 ladies are coming. I’ve been doing strength training on Mondays and HIIT/Bootcamp type classes on Wednesdays. This is my favorite way to workout and I think it’s some of the most effective ways to workout too.
It’s just perfect for me; I’m among friends, it’s a way less intimidating environment for me to learn in and it’s a great motivator for me to get in a great workout AND hang out with my friends. It’s great!
If I end up loving it and feeling more confident in it, I may go get my legit Personal Trainer license and teach “for reals” in a gym or rec center somewhere. I think that would be so rewarding! We’ll see….
I will also share some of my workouts when I get a chance to type them up and/or maybe even make some short workout videos too. I love this stuff!

Well, I had some other things I was going to share tonight, but I think I’ll save it for later. I’m going to seriously try to blog more often, so I hope to hop on here again in the next day or two.
I will end by sharing a few funny pictures. First, look at this darling, yet funny picture of my sweet baby (yes, I know he’s not a baby) and puppy.
This child of mine loves this doggie so so much. Probably a little too much! It’s very sweet. This picture cracked me up because it looks like my puppy is smiling! Ha ha ha! Love it.
I also have to share this disturbing picture that I took tonight when I was at Walmart.
Allow me to zoom in…..
I know???!?!???!??! I think my jaw literally hit the floor. At first I thought it had to be a swimsuit, but I DON’T THINK IT IS!! Unbelievable. I had to chuckle too because this is so cliche “People of Walmart,” Ha ha!
I was just glad my little boys weren’t with me! SMH
Well, on that note, I will now hit the hay! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your summer! xoxo

Congrats on teaching!! I loved being an instructor and have actually started thinking about getting certified again to teach.
Also, whhhhaaatttt with those “shorts”???
Melanie says
Awww, thanks Susan! So far, I’m really enjoying it. You should definitely teach again!! I bet you are a fantastic teacher! Oh and the “shorts” were seriously disturbing!?!

I really think you should go for your personal trainer license. You’re so passionate about fitness and nutrition and sharing your own journey, it just seems logical.
Melanie says
Awww thanks so much Beth! I really appreciate that. I’ve been chicken for so long, but I know I would love it. It’s sooooo good to hear from you. I hope you are well!
