I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
Our weekend was busy, yet full of a lot of fun things. On Friday night, Kev and I went to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and I loved it!
I also love the theater we go to. It has a bunch of food options (kind of like a big food court), so Kev and I like to buy food and take it into the movie with us.
I got a Chef Salad and a drink (caffeine free Cherry Diet Coke) and it was yummy.
There’s just something about eating food while watching a movie that is so fun! Oh, and just so ya know, I’m not a weirdo movie patron who takes pictures during the movie. I took this picture before the movie started. 😉
Anyway, The Hunger Games was so well done and I was glued to it from beginning to end. The entire cast was phenomenal and I even loved the creepy people.
It’s such an intriguing, thought provoking, yet freaky storyline. It seems so over-the-top unrealistic, but sadly I can see a lot of similarities in the world we live in. I wish I would’ve read the books, but unfortunately I haven’t made time to read a book in a very long time, dang it.
I miss reading books. 🙁
Anyway, before I tell you any more about our fun weekend, I want to tell you about a fabulous new company, NEVA Activewear.
It’s a wonderful exercise apparel company with an inspiring message and mission; “Look Good, Feel Good, Do Good.”
You guys already know I’m a huge lover of health and fitness. Living a healthy lifestyle has enriched, improved and completely changed my life. I love NEVA Activewear because it promotes that healthy lifestyle, but it also promotes a better life for many other people in the process.
NEVA employs artisans in South Asia to hand embroider each piece of clothing with messages such as, “Be The Change.” These artisans, who would otherwise be jobless or severely underpaid, are able to earn 10 times their typical wages and provide education, healthcare and a better life for their children.
I love that!
Right now, NEVA is offering two different styles of clothing as part of their Kickstarter Campaign to launch their business. They offer a fitted jacket and a relaxed hoodie in three colors: magenta, black and light blue.
Aren’t they so cute!? With an $89 donation ($79 for early birds!), you can have your pick of either of these beautiful jackets. You can visit NEVA’s website or check out the video below for more information about the company and a closer look at the cute jackets.
I love companies that try to make a difference. 😉
Well, on Saturday morning I went to my typical class at the gym. I grabbed a banana with peanut butter as I ran out the door…
I know that doesn’t look yummy, but it really is one of my favorite treats!
I also brought a Chobani yogurt with me to stash in the car for my after workout snack! It was just perfect.
I spent the rest of the day cleaning, doing laundry and other “fun” things like that. Around 9:00 that night, I told Kev we needed to go on a quick date.
I really love getting away from the house for a bit and enjoying a real conversation with Kev without 8 million interruptions. It’s bliss. Anyway, we decided to go to Chick Fil-A. I’ve told you guys I really, really love that place. 🙂
I ordered the Cobb salad and splurged a little because I got it with their traditional, not grilled chicken. BUT, that chicken called my name….it’s just too darn yummy.
Oh, and I topped it off with a little Berry Balsamic Vinaigrette. This salad has 430 calories, 22 grams of fat and 39 grams of protein. Not too bad.
Kev took a quick pic of me and it turned out scary…
Yikes, with my washed out pale face and big black coat, I look pretty “Goth.” Soooo cute.
We had a fun night though and enjoyed our quick little break.
I put a roast in the Crock-Pot yesterday morning. Sadly, when we got home from church at 4:00, it still wasn’t done ( I wished I would have put it in the night before!)
Soooo, we ended up eating small snacks and having dinner at 8:30 last night.
Awesome.
It tasted great though! I made mashed potatoes, gravy and a salad too. Oh, we also had green beans and applesauce, but I didn’t have any. Here’s my plate…
Here we are having our late night dinner. I told all the kids they had to get in their jammies before they could have any food. 🙂
I know, I can be pretty oppressive….withholding food from my children until they comply with my demands. Hee hee.
Oh, and last night we also went to a fun (very) extended Family Reunion thingy. I really didn’t know anyone there except my immediate family and a few of my cousins. It was still interesting though.
There were a bunch of speakers of all ages who talked about our ancestors and some of their stories. It was pretty cool. My brother, nephew and one of my cousins spoke and it was fun to hear the stories they shared.
Afterward, cookies were served and everyone mingled for a bit. I took a bunch of pics.
The cousins loved hanging out together. Check out my cute nephew in the front of the pic on the left! Too funny….looks like he’s enjoying his cookie!
I hadn’t seen my sister in weeks! It was nice to see her….and her son who photo bombed our picture. 😉
I snapped a couple quick pics with my adorable parents, brother and sister-in-law too. Love them. I’m so grateful to be related to so many wonderful peeps.
Oh, and I sorta kinda like this man too…
Well, that was our weekend in a nutshell.
In case you’re wondering, I’m still committed to my Ultra Healthy “no grains” diet until Thanksgiving, but I did have a few little snitches over the weekend!
Weekends are tough, but I really don’t regret it. I love enjoying my weekend fully! In full disclosure, I snitched a few fries, a cookie and some leftover birthday cake.
I enjoyed every bite, but I’m back to “fully committed” now.
Well, I need to go clean up and vacuum my house. We’re having our carpets cleaned tomorrow (yay!), and I don’t think the carpet cleaner guy would appreciate cleaning around Legos and a million toys! Have a wonderful day!
Questions for you guys:
- Have you seen Catching Fire yet?? What did you think?
- Did you get a good workout in this weekend? What did you do?
- What do you think of family reunions? Love ’em or hate ’em?
- What’s your favorite pre or post workout snack?

I had a killer lower body workout on Sunday after church. I’m sooooo sore today. I love family reunions, except for one auntie that points out everyone’s flaws, zits, weight gain, under eye circles, etc….
Melanie says
I love being sore after a great workout! Wow, your auntie sounds…interesting. Yikes. Sounds like she could make a reunion really….ummmm fun. 😉
Kim says
Sounds like a great weekend!!
I like family reunions when they are planned for a fun reason – lately it seems like a lot of our “reunions” happen at funerals.
Melanie says
I usually love family reunions too! I’m sorry your reunions have been at funerals lately. 🙁 Not fun.

You have to read the books! All you need to do is not sleep…heehee! That is what I need to do anyway. We saw the movie this weekend, too. I like the Hunger Games series (well, not too crazy about #3), but I am REALLY excited about Divergent…although I read that trilogy too and liked it a bit better. Did you see that preview this weekend?
Melanie says
I know! I love to read, but it does usually happen in the wee (quiet) hours of the morning. I’ve heard that the #3 book wasn’t too good either, dang it. Hopefully the movie will be better. I also saw the preview for Divergent and it looked awesome! I should start reading those books now. I love watching a movie after I read the book. 😉

Oh I love the NEVA jackets! So cute! i have not been to the movie theater in so long. We watch all our movies at home on demand because I love getting takeout and cracking a bottle of wine and pausing for bathroom breaks! Lol! I do want to see the Catching Fire movie though!
Melanie says
I love the jackets too! Your movie night at home sounds heavenly! We used to do that when the kids were younger….now I really look forward to getting out of the house. 😉

That Neva activewear is so cute! I love the pink…. I really love girly colors like pink and orange….or just bright colors in general. Sounds like a great weekend too….you are lucky… My hubby and I haven’t been on a date since before my daughter was born. She’s 2 now, lol. We just aren’t comfortable leaving her with anybody. First and only child so that probably somewhat makes sense. I hear you get a little more relaxed with more kids, lol. For real though…. When she’s a bit older, but neither one of us care to leave her …we just love having her with us 🙂
I haven’t been to a family reunion since I was a kid wow!!
Melanie says
I love the NEVA jackets too…I want both of them in all the colors! We did have a great weekend. Ya know, when we had little kids we hardly went on dates either. I didn’t like leaving my kids either. We would usually rent a movie, get take out and stay home. I loved it though. BUT, I’m so grateful to have big kids home to babysit now. I never thought we’d ever get to this point in our lives. I live for our date nights now. 😉

I still haven’t seen Catching Fire! A part of me wants to play hookie from work and see it 🙂
Melanie says
It’s really, really good! I never read the books, but I think the movies are so well done. Love the cast!

I haven’t seen either of the movies yet, and, like you, have no time to read, but I do have an audio book subscription that I love (audible.com). Before kids, I read a ton. Almost every Sunday afternoon was me and a book and after I had my daughter I missed it so much. So, I have actually listened to all three Hunger Games books. I enjoyed the first one the most. The second was good too. I think the third, they pushed the story line a little too far, but I did love the characters all the way through.
I listen to the audio books in the car after I drop off my daughter at daycare and then when i was working out (prior to being massively pregnant) I would listen to the stories at the gym instead of music. I actually found I got so involved in the stories that the workouts fly by.
These days, my workouts include, heaving myself out of bed in the morning and the multiple walks to the bathroom… 🙂
Melanie says
I need to check out audible.com! I would love to listen to a book during a workout…anything to help the time go by faster! I hope all is going well with your pregnancy. I know pregnancy is a workout in and of itself. 😉
Alex @ Kenzie Life says
I love those jackets and I really love the idea behind that company! You have such a beautiful family! I have yet to read or see any of the Hunger Games books or movies, but I’m told I should!
Melanie says
I feel the same way about those jackets…love them and the company! If you see/read The Hunger Games, I hope you enjoy them. 😉

Just what I need, ANOTHER sports/active wear line to get ADDICTED to! HA Ha Ha! Am I being sarcastic? Not really actually, LOL!
Melanie says
LOL! I know, there are too many cute workout clothes out there! I feel the same way!
Elise @9toFit.com says
Never heard of NEVA need to check them out!
Melanie says
I hadn’t heard of them either, but so far I love what they offer and represent. 😉

I loved Hunger Games too. First, time I’ve gone to a movie in almost a year. I forgot how fun it is.
Melanie says
We used to never go to movies, now we go almost every weekend. It’s such a fun date night for us!
