Turkey Burgers and Sweet Potato Fries

March 22, 20124 Comments

I love this meal!  It reminds me of summer, but we make it year round!  All of my kids love it too, which is a huge plus!

I served the turkey burgers and fries alongside Greek Salad and fruit.

Here’s how I made it.

I prepared the Sweet Potato Fries first so they could be cooking while I made the burgers.

Sweet Potato Fries

(you can also make this same recipe with any kind of potatoes!)

  • 3 sweet potatoes or yams; peeled and cut into fries
  • 1/4 C. Olive Oil
  • Seasoning Salt (to taste)

Prepare the sweet potatoes.

Sweet-Potatoes

Peel them…

Slice them!

Cut them into fries!

Put the olive oil and seasoned salt into a gallon sized Ziploc bag.

Add the sweet potatoes, zip the bag closed and mix everything together!

Place a crumpled sheet of foil on a baking sheet and spray it well with cooking spray.  Arrange fries in a single layer on the baking sheet.

I probably should have split these onto two baking sheets….but I didn’t!

Bake at 425 degrees for 45-60 minutes; turning once during baking.

If my fries aren’t “crispy” enough, I then place them under the broiler for 5-10 minutes until crisp!  They are much better if they are a little bit crispy!

That’s it!

K….while the fries were cooking, I threw together the Turkey Burgers.  Here’s how I did that….

Turkey Burgers

(I also make this same recipe with lean ground beef and it’s awesome!)

  • 1/2 C. Cheddar cheese; shredded
  • 1 T. Parmesan cheese; grated
  • 1/2 large onion; chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 T. ketchup
  • 1 T. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • dash pepper
  • 1 pound lean ground turkey (or beef!)

Mix the Cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, onion, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper together in a large bowl.

Add the ground turkey and mix everything well using your hands!

Form mixture into 6-7 patties and place on grill.  I love these on the outside BBQ grill, but we did them on the indoor “wannabe” grill tonight. 😉

Cook for 5-7 minutes each side until cooked through.

This picture is not the yummiest. I had some issues with the burgers sticking to the “grill.” These are so good though!

My kids had these just like regular hamburgers; on buns with mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickles and lettuce.  They all loved them and everyone finished their dinner!  Wa hoo!  I chose to have mine without a bun topped with low sugar ketchup, mustard and pickles.

I threw together a quick Greek salad (Spring Mix lettuce, olives, grape tomatoes, red peppers, cucumber and feta!)  I topped it with a little Newman’s Own Balsamic Vinigarette.  Yum!

I also chopped up some fresh fruit to have on the side (Strawberries, Raspberries, Kiwi and bananas!)

We all loved this meal.  It is a little bit time consuming….but so worth it!

Enjoy!

Hi! Thanks for your comment. I just updated this post with the nutritional information.

Here’s the info for the turkey burgers (1 patty without condiments or bun): Calories 168, Fat 9g, Cholesterol 103mg, Sodium 396mg, Total Carbohydrate 3g, Fiber 0.26g, Sugars 1.5g, Protein 19g

Here’s the info for the sweet potato fries (this is approximate because it depends on the size of potatoes used. I calculated this to be 1/6th of the recipe): Calories 132, Fat 9g, Cholesterol 0mg, Sodium 527mg, Total Carbohydrate 12g, Fiber 2g, Sugars 10g, Protein 1g

      Enjoy!
