You Are What You Eat!

September 27, 20122 Comments

I love these little “e card” dealy things.  I laughed and laughed when I saw this one!  Too funny.

You are what you eat

LOL!  However, I really do believe we ultimately are what we eat!  Sad, but true.

Our bodies are constantly making new cells….and those cells are made from the things we put into our bodies!  Sooooo, do you want Twinkie and donut cells or cells made from fruits, vegetables and other “real” foods??  What we choose to put into our mouths definitely has the biggest influence on weight-loss and just overall health in general.

I’ve told you before I’ve not always been the best eater.  But, over the past 2-3 years or so, I’ve become a believer!  Time after time, I’ve personally witnessed the results of eating a healthy or not so healthy diet.

When I eat well, I sleep WAY better (deep, restorative, peaceful, funky dreamin’ kind of sleep), I have more energy, my nails grow like crazy, my hair is shinier and healthier, my skin is clearer and “glowier” (my own little word), and my body just feels….calm.

When I eat junk food, my immune system immediately takes a hit (no kidding!), I become tired and sluggish, my skin breaks out and looks less “glowy”, and I become a victim of constant cravings!

Another amazing thing I’ve noticed is that when I’m eating well, healthy foods taste amazing!!  I really crave veggies, fruit, chicken and real food!  And, amazingly junk food doesn’t seem to have a hold on me.  I can easily pass up my favorite treats!  It’s kind of miraculous.  However, when I’m on a “crappy eating” kick, healthy food does not sound good at all.  My body becomes victim to all sorts of crazy cravings and it seems nearly impossible to resist my favorite treats!

Weird.

Case in point.  This is why I am a firm believer of good nutrition!  This is also why the bulk of my blog is geared around healthy eating and recipes.  It is soooo important!

So, with that being said (and because I haven’t blogged in a while!), I will share a bunch of pics.  Here are some of the yummy, healthy things I’ve been enjoying lately!

Oatmeal-eggs-and-turkey-bacon
Oatmeal with vanilla protein powder, bananas, peanut butter and pecans served with a side of 3 egg whites (topped with low sugar ketchup) and a slice of turkey bacon!  This is a humongoid breakfast, I know!  Man.  Amazingly I calculated this to be only 368 calories, 32 grams of protein and only 11 grams of sugar! It also kept me waaaay full until lunch!

Turkey-Bacon
This is the kind of Turkey Bacon I used.  It is so freaking awesome.  I buy it at Costco and it comes with two of these huge packages.  I love it because it’s yummy, relatively low in sodium and they don’t use any nitrates or nitrites in it!  Costco is the bomb.  Plain and simple.

Banana-and-almonds
Easiest, quickest snack on the planet.  Banana and Cocoa Roast Almonds.  I actually had this for breakfast the other morning because we were SO SO SO crazy and this is all I had time for!

Protein-Pancakes-and-eggs
You all know how much I LOVE protein pancakes!!!  They are my fav.  I actually had this for lunch the other day (the day I had the banana and nuts for breakfast), because this is what I really wanted for breakfast! 😉

Taco-Soup-and-Salad
Easiest dinner on the planet!  Taco soup (topped with cheese and lite sour cream) and a yummy salad (mixed greens, hard boiled egg, tomato and cumcumber topped with Raspberry Vinigarette!)

Mega-Turkey-Burger-Salad
I had this very interesting monster salad for lunch today.  It was so good and I was so dang full!  It’s mixed greens and spinach (yes, it’s under there somewhere!), tomato, cucumber, hard boiled egg, sauteed onion, feta cheese and a crumbled turkey burger (from the freezer.)  Weird, but yummy!  And, my cute little 2 year old sat down next to me and had 10-12 bites himself.  He loved it….and yes I was shocked.

Well, there you go.  Yummy, healthy “awesome cell-building” food that will turn you into a Sexy Beast!

I sincerely hope you are all happy, healthy and full of energy and vibrancy!

Love and LIVE life to the fullest! xoxox

Oh, I need to scope out Costco! I have had a card for years! but we only EVER get meat there (and sometimes I can score a good book).
We just never walk around to see what else may be a good deal, I feel we will get sucked into too many goodies!
    We always get:
Flank steak, steak strips, chicken breasts or tenders.
    then we are OUT!
What other wonderful things do you get at Costco? I would love to know what I may be able to get that is worth the $ and bulk!
    Thanks!!!

So so sorry, I’m SO SLOW to respond to your comment!! I LOVE Costco SO SO SO much! Their produce is the best out there (except the bananas!) Their milk, eggs, flour and sugar are really cheap and great quality. I also love to buy paper products (plates, cups, plastic-wear) there. It’s so nice to have them on hand. Here are some other things I love to buy there; Ziploc bags, dishwasher soap, laundry soap, household cleaners, hummus, flaxseed, quinoa, shampoo/conditioner, vitamins and supplements, ground turkey, honey, peanut butter, string cheese, bread, shredded cheese (I divide it up into smaller freezer bags), olive oil, protein powder, healthy chips and tons of other things! I have found them all to be great prices too….especially when I use Costco coupons! The only things I don’t buy there (I think they’re more expensive) are; cereal, canned food (I buy them sometimes), diapers, toilet paper, paper towels and chicken. Good luck with your Costco shopping!!
