Powerade Drops, a Mango Chia Seed Spinach Protein Shake and Some Great Workouts!

August 17, 20131 Comment

Hello friends.

I hope you are all having a fantastic weekend!  I started my morning off with one of my favorite classes at the gym.  It’s a really tough muscle class and I have a love/hate relationship with it. 😉

I took this cheesy pic just before class started this morning…

Me at Muscle class

When I got there, I was disappointed to see we had a sub for an instructor ( I LOVE my regular instructor), but it turned out to be a really great class.  I felt like I thoroughly worked every muscle in my body.  Yay.

Oh, and I put some Powerade drops into my water bottle this morning too.  I really love them!  I prefer to have just a little bit of flavor in my water and I love that these drops let me control how much flavor is in there.  They make the water so light and refreshing, but not too sweet.  LOVE IT.

I was sent both the fruit punch and orange flavors and I really love both of them so much.

I also went on a run yesterday morning and put some of the drops in my water then too.  Yay.

Anyway, when I got home from the gym today, I decided to make myself some yummy Peanut Butter Oatmeal (I’m linking to my Chocolate oatmeal recipe because it’s just the same except I use vanilla protein powder and leave out the cocoa) and topped it with some raspberries, bananas and hemp hearts.  LOVE.

That oatmeal is so yummy and filling.  I’m loving the raspberries right now.

I was also happy to see a couple of my cute kiddos doing this when I got home…

Kids working out

They set up some workout stations and were following a workout from an app on my daughter’s phone.  Too cute.  I loved the weights and water bottles they set up too.  🙂

Awesome.

Later on, I made myself my current favorite shake:  Mango Chia Seed Spinach Protein Shake.  YUM!

Me with Mango Spinach Shake

I took that pic a couple days ago, but it’s the same shake!

I bought a big ol’ box of mangoes at Costco last week, so I’ve been throwing mangoes into a bunch of stuff.  This shake is so great; in fact every time I make it, several of my kiddos steal it from me!

Mango Chia Seed Spinach Protein Shake

Here’s how I make it;

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup cubed mango
  • 1/2 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 2 big handfuls baby spinach
  • 8-10 ice cubes

Mango Chia Spinach Protein Shake Ingredients

Put everything into the blender except the ice.  Blend well.

Add the ice and blend again!  Enjoy.

Oh and by the way, mangoes are a little bit tough to cut.  They are really soft and slimy, so unless you know how to cut them correctly, you will end up with a huge mess!

So, here’s how I cut them;

Place the mango on a cutting board with the stem side up.  Mangoes have a big flat seed in the center, so you want to cut on either side of that seed (about 3/4 inch segment in the middle)…

Where to cut a mango

Cut one “cheek” of the mango off first…

Then turn it around and cut the other “cheek.”

Then, pick up one of the “cheeks” and use a sharp knife to make cuts lengthwise and crosswise.  Be careful not to cut through the peel.

After you’ve made the cuts, invert the peel of the mango to reveal the “cubes.”

So pretty!  At this point, just use your knife to cut the rest of the way through the cubes…

Do the same thing for the other cheek and then you will have a nice cubed mango!

Mango chunks

That’s it.  Oh and BTW, I just chuck the middle section of the mango.  I’ve found it’s quite hard to get any useable fruit out of it.

I’ve been throwing mangoes in my oatmeal, on salads or eating them plain too!  Yum.

Well, that’s all folks.  I need to get a bunch of stuff done today so I gotta jam.  I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful night! xoxo

I was sent the complimentary Powerade Drops, but the opinions expressed are my own. 😉

Wow! Sounds like fun! I always love to eat delicious foods that do not actually affect my weight loss scheme. This seems an interesting bunch of foods. I might consider these foods.
